While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

We truly all go through the same highs and lows and that's the glue that holds us together. Just found out what my Christmas present is going to be this year - a new knee. Will be having a knee replacement on 12/22 and my son hopefully will have leave on 12/26 to 1/4! Some things cannot be planned. LOL

Comment by Johanna on November 5, 2014 at 2:57pm: Looks like everyone, especially Sailors, are doing great. I am checking in on everyone from Athens Greece. I spent some time in Piraeus and talked to a bunch of Greek Sailors. Didn't say I was a Navy Mom, but gave lots of hugs...; ))I am now in the mountains about 6 hours NE of Athens. I am in a mountain village of about 32 people. We were cliff jumping into the coves this Afternoon and tonight there is a celebration for something wonderfully Greek...; )) It's actually my GF's bday!!! Tomorrow is more driving, of a tiny stick shift through switchback roads above the Aegean that take your breathe away and beg for you to stay...; ) BTW, I wave to the sea to all our boys each time my eyes meet the sea.

He walked toward us with his hand outstretched and dropped his Dolphins in my hand! "I did it, Mom!" And, as usual, I did the only thing I could think of at that moment.....cry!

Comment by Kaye S. on November 5, 2014 at 1:34pm: I, too, have never received news of awards or accomplishments from the command. But, before you think I'm whining, let me add that I learned son had Dolphins when I saw them on his shirt, walking into the airport a few days later!

Letter? What letter?!!! :-)

Comment by William in Nashua on November 5, 2014 at 12:10pm: Well after a previous underway he was given a free weekend liberty to come visit us so he is well treated. He had called me from another submarine base let's just say pretty far from home and said they would probably be letting him come home for a visit after the underway and that he had been working on "something special" on the boat. Then I found out they were giving him another medal for it Lol. But, they do not seem to send letters to parents so I guess it varies by boat.

Of course, you know what you did and that is what matters. It is like anything--some people will go above and beyond to make things specials and others just figure you did what you are suppose to do what more do you want. I, of course, make a big deal about things. Sometimes my kids think and look at me like really mom, but I know if I didn't or I forgot they would think and look at me like really mom. I figure it makes me happy and I can tell they are happy too.

Comment by William in Nashua on November 5, 2014 at 10:44am: I have never received a letter of any kind during the four years my son has been in the Navy, not when he got his dolphins, not when he got the Navy Achievement Medal, and not when he recently got his second NAM either, nor for any other commendations. Two more years to go. So I would not be holding my breath awaiting congratulatory letters or any other sort of correspondence from the Navy. Congratulations to all who earned their dolphins recently.
