Thanks Shea, I'll ask him next time he calls.  :)

stylist, my son was told that if they have any down time at all they should be working on quals.  He can't even take a book aboard as it would take him away from working on quals.  Sounds like they pretty much have no life until they get their fish. :)

Hello stylist613. I think it depends where they are in quals. They get a lot more privileges once they have earned their dolphins. Also I think it depends on their command.

Hello mrsb. It's funny that you ask this question. We just talked about it on the Facebook site for parents who's sailors are in Hawaii. It may depend on your son's command. My son can't have anything like that, they are only allowed regulation fire retardant bedding but other moms commented that their sons have sleeping bags or blankets. Probably best to get him to find out.

Hello all!  It seems like some time ago I saw on this site suggestions for fleece sleeping bags or something like that that Sailors could put inside their sheets on the boat.  Does that sound familiar to anyone?  Am looking for ideas for gifts for my son, even though he will probably be out at Christmas time.  Thanks!

Bandit1998, Your grandson will love it over there in Hawaii. My husband and I were stationed there twice. He was actually one of the chaplains at the sub base.  You should plan to visit!

Congratulations Bandit! My son graduates the day before! They do get time off between A school and the assignment.

My Sailor grandson got his orders last week.  He got his first choice of Hawaii and is so happy.  Don't know if I should mention the name of his sub here, or not, but he will finish with his "A" school on Oct 24th and hopefully get to come home a couple of weeks before leaving for his "new" home.  So happy for him.

Congratulations KWL's mom on your son getting his Dolphins! Beautiful poem.

What a great poem...your son is very talented!  You must be so proud...and congratulations on getting his dolphins!  It's funny - the benchmarks we look forward to...all with the same hope, enthusiasm, and pride.  First word, Kindergarten Graduation, Making the Varsity team, High School graduation, boot graduation, BESS, and now Dolphins.  Through all of this, they still remain our little boy.
