No Eaglefan it doesn't mean he is not getting them. I am sure he is. I never got anything returned when he was getting them. No word back and modified are both good.

Tina41- my son is also on his first deployment and I've sent many emails but never got anything back "modified" or otherwise. Does this mean he's not receiving my emails?

Laura, there are plenty of clubs around Groton sub base, a major casino is a couple miles down the road from the sub base, also plenty of friends-of-friends.   A boat could be home ported in Groton this year but he could be based  halfway around the planet next year so not everyone is looking for his soul mate while in Groton nuff said Lol.

mrsb - my son was the king of Craigslist.  When he and his buddies moved up to Ballston Spa he furnished the whole house off Craigslist.  I was horrified when I saw the color combos but he had fun doing it.  The whole house only cost a couple of hundred to furnish.  Of course, that didn't include what I spent for him buying dishes, pots, glasses, etc.  I sort of adopted the house because I was 3 hours away and the other 2 boys were California boys and needed someone to play Mama occasionally.  Now I just follow their travels and send cards!

The Navy ships all their stuff to where they are assigned. They said it would take 6 wks and it was more like three which was a week after he arrived in HI.

Yes they like to spend that $$$!!!

mrsb - when my sailor reported to his port he took all his stuff with him.  He will have room in his barracks to plug in his X Box. He may not have much time to use it at first, but if he ships it when he goes the Navy pays for it!!!  My son had collected quite a bit by the time he finished Sub school.  He shipped it all to Pearl when he left Groton.  If he doesn't take it with him, it will cost a lot more to ship or he may just buy a new one!!!  They like to spend their money when they first arrive at their new home! LOL Good Luck to him for his assignment.
