Well, mrsb, my Sailor and his fiance' did attend the Submariner's Ball! I am so excited because I just noticed on the picture I saw of them that he has a MEDAL on his left breast pocket area and I can't find out till l get a hold of him.  It's too late for him right now but I am wondering if anyone on here may know what that medal is for?

I hope you can see my Son's pic.

Kevsmom,

Here is a open group (anyone can join, anyone can read comments posted) on Facebook for the USS Columbus. You have to get a Facebook profile to join. Since it's an open group, please be care of what you post (just like here). My son's sub had a secret Facebook group - more information was disclosed and membership had to be approved by the ship's ombudsman.  I recall reading about the change in contact info for getting hold of the ombudsman for the different ships but I can't find thread at the moment. Sorry.

Our son graduates his A school on May 8th. He will be coming home soon after that but I don't have an exact date as of yet. His Dad and I are overjoyed to finally get to see him again after all these months!! Can't even wrap my ahead around all the news he's shared with us recently.

His permanent duty station is Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on the USS Columbus SSN 762. Can't believe he received his first choice, we're so happy for him! That means maybe someday (I hope) if his Dad and I are fortunate enough we'll be making our first visit to Hawaii :-)

I do have a question that I'm hoping a sub mom can help out with. He has tried to contact the Ombudsman and the email was sent back as no longer existing. Is there any other way to contact them? He sounded a little concerned and I told him I would ask my fellow sub mom's maybe they could help?? I've checked here on NFM's and I couldn't find a group for his boat :-/

I can't wait to hear about the ball how exciting for your boys! That would be cool if you cold post some pics :-)

LindaGirl- My goodness sometimes life can really throw you a curve. I hope you're feeling better very soon so you can enjoy your cruise. Your son is coming home how awesome is that! I understand you're feeling so much disappointment on not being there for his arrival. But just think of how wonderful it will be that he will be waiting there for you on your return!

I'm with ProudNavyMom#1 can't wait to hear the rest of the story!

Hi ladies, got good news & bad news, depending on how you look at it! What are the chances of my husband & I being on a River Cruise on the Rhine River through Germany, as I write this. (Booked the trip last fall when we thought our Marine son wouldn't be coming home from his deployment in Africa, not till May or June). He is due home next week while we are gone, I so wanted to be at his home-coming, & thought about how it would be the whole time he was deployed! Not only are we on the River cruise this week, but it's the one time in 20 years, I decided not to get a flu shot this year, & guess who has an extremely bad cold at the moment, which I'm afraid could very well be the flu, or lead to it.
