OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

I would recommend for anyone not from the north east to take a train into NYC and/or Boston. Even if you have a car - do not drive in! Both have limited parking and high fees. I will let you know as soon as I hear back from him.

My son just left Groton last summer. When he was there he use to like to visit the Crystal Mall 850 Hartford Turnpike, Waterford, CT 06385. He also use to like to visit the Blackstone Valley Mall @ 70 Worcester Providence Tpke Millbury, Ma. which is about 1hr and 20 mins away from base. It has a movie theater, restaurants & some shops. Hope this helps.

My son is in Groton now and said it is a beautiful area but yet very boring since he can't find anything to do and not many places to eat. Do you have any suggestions? He said he has visited a couple of areas close by but again there is nothing. He plans on heading to New Haven this weekend to see if they have anything interesting. He went to the Casino and walked around. He is looking for some place to go hiking as well. Thanks.

I grew up in the Groton area and spent most of my life on the western half of CT. I now live in FL and loving every warm minute of it. I have many pictures of the foliage to look at with no raking needed!

Fayegirrl4 - our sailor is also at Kingsbay, but we are about 3 hours away. A lot closer than we lived in CT!

baby dukie's mama enjoy your time in Groton and seeing your son :) With a car ride that long with that many people in one car maybe you can get an idea as to what your son will deal with while out in the big blue lol. Take many pictures once you get there!!

Comment by fayegirrl4* on October 19, 2016 at 3:44pm: baby dukie's mama, lol.. BEST OF LUCK on your trek across the country to Groton! I thought our 12 hour drive from Ohio to Groton was bad. Our son is now in Kings Bay and ironically, it's almost the same distance from Ohio to Kings Bay!

Our sailor has been home on leave and will return back to base this weekend. His brother will travel with him ( sailor bought a car while home). I am praying that they have a safe trip and no one beats the other up.

I have to say much has changed since our son has returned from his first underway. Some good, some not so good. His attitude towards me for one. BUT, I made my point loud and clear. Our other son still has not heard when he will leave for bootcamp. He was supposed to ship out July 19th. Currently waiting to see if recruiter can switch rates with another recruit. SIGH.....

They've been working hard getting the boat ready so I guess that's why! Back to 50-word FamilyGrams again but I will be faithful to send them twice a month. Back to praying for the whole crew. But he loves being at sea and doing what he does!
