It just goes to show all of us that even a Mom with 5 years under her belt still worries her little heart out...lol! I use the word word "worry" loosely, it's kind of all inclusive and means so many things for us, don't you think?  Here's a quote for us Mom's who worry and a good reminder too:

“Worry is like a rocking chair: it gives you something to do but never gets you anywhere”

 Erma Bombeck

Congratulations to your son on his reenlistment and happy to hear he'll be on shore duty where you'll be able to keep a "close eye"on him!

One more thing... He knows how I worry and I just want him to know that I'm ok.. I'm worrying that he's worried that I'm worrying.. Lol

Thanks for all of the great advise! I will keep my head up and stay positive! It's comforting knowing I'm not the only one feeling like this.... He's been in almost 5 years and this is the longest I've goon without hearing from him so I really should consider myself lucky! I know some of you have to go months in silence.. I don't know if I could be that strong.... The good news is that he just reenlisted for 3 more years and Will be doing shore duty in Virginia and I absolutely can not wait! Thanks again everyone!

Hi Bonnieb75...I agree with everyones advise. It is hard, but we are so proud of all our sailors who are away and keeping us safe. My sailor said that even though he couldn't always respond to my emails, he loved hearing about things that were happening here at home. After my first initial sappy mom email, I would send an email once a week with all the news that happened around home and town. He said it made him feel like he wasn't missing out on things and he could read them over and over.

God bless you and your family!

lillyfield41 yes, I completely understand how you feel, as we all do. I received one of those extra, extra special messages today that just made me weep like a baby! Sometimes they say the sweetest things that can really hit that mommy sensitive nerve...lol I can just hear my son if he saw me crying at his message..."awww Mom."  God bless all our boys!!!

It's a tricky business emailing a submarine. Remember their safety always comes first, so it's possible they aren't in a position to receive or return messages. You can always call your FRG or Ombudsman, if you have their number. I have only done this once in the past 3 years and she was so helpful in calming my concerns, which by the way were for naught...lol. All of us mom's here on N4M's have been where you're at, remember this is probably the new normal for your son and it's okay! He's out there working hard to keep us all safe, makes you so proud it hurts...right? :-D

Bonnieb75 just keep writing to him and know that he's ultimately getting and reading them even if you rarely get more than a line or two in response. I don't want to say that you get used to the silence and not hearing from them but I found that after over 4 years and multiple underways, 1 deployment and another approaching that I've moved into a "new normal" if you will. There will be times when it's weeks and months of silence but we all get through it and are here for each other. Reach out as often as you need and I'm praying for you!!

Bonnieb75. I'm in the same boat. (Lol). I haven't heard from my son either. I'm sure they are working hard and either don't have time to read their email or haven't received them. I emailed 1 week ago and haven't heard back from him. Hope this gives you some comfort.

Yes it is hard, no doubt about it. What you could do is write him a letter that you may or may not send. Writing out what you feel today helps you to "verbalize" your inside feelings. They are real. You may cry when you are writing and that is ok too! We have all been there!!!!

Hey everyone.. Having a really tough time lately.. Really depressed. I haven't heard from my sailor in 2 weeks... Although that may not seem unusual for submariners... It's just unusual for mine! Is email still down? I'm just worried... Does anyone have a sailor on the USS Buffalo that wouldn't mind chatting with me?
