Steph, I'm not sure what to tell you. Everyone reacts differently to deployments. I just wouldn't suggest you do what I did. I ate a 5 lb box of malted milk balls the afternoon after the ship left.
Later deployments, a group of us would get together the evening after they left. It helped not to be alone. FRGs can be a great resource and source of support. If you need us we're here for you.

Casey, I know exactly how you feel. One thing I learned early was to get out of the house when I was having a down day. Try to have lunch with a friend, go shopping, or just go for a walk. But the most important thing is to find a distraction that you like. One major thing I learned was, this is not the day to write to your husband. They have this 6th sense and he'll pick up on your feelings.
Even though my husband is no longer in the Navy, he still travels for his job. He can be gone for more than a month at a time. I hope I've helped a little.

My husband is on deployment right now. Usually I am ok....but deep down I really really miss him. Some days are better than other and today so far is a down day. Just wanted to share with people who might understand! What do you all do when deployments are getting you down?

Be carefull he doesn't get to like the idea of your going car shopping. My husbands been out of the Navy for more than 20 years and I still get to do the car shopping and buying. He hates the whole process. He just tells me what kind of car he wants and shows up to sign the papers.

I remember having to buy a new car while my husband was deployed. Boy, did he get teased by his friends. Esp. since I bought a sports car (he wanted one). The jokes about a blonde driving a sports car went on for days. He actually had a friend from another ship come over and check out what I bought. LOL

Ahh yes, the Car. There is some kind of unwritten rule that the car must break down only while your husband is deployed. We had a car that use to break down everytime my husband left. We use to joke that the darn thing was depressed by his leaving. As a matter of self defense, I bought a care repair book, just so I would know what the repair guy was talking about. Both the repair guy and my husband were very impressed! LOL Not that I intended to do any of those repairs myself.

O'Kane, I was once a Navy wife and I know exactly how you feel. Is there any place that you would enjoy volunteering? You need to reach out and try to keep from feeling alone. There are a lot of Navy wives that feel like you do, so try and find them. They will be a great support for you and your sailor will be home before you know it.

I just took a look at your page, what beautiful wedding photos :) I know, it can be so hard. Are you from Hawaii or how long have you been there? I lived there for two years...

Oh no! How long has he been gone?
