navy1of5 (Ship03 Div118) I don't know which might be worse, waiting 8 months or being called up 5 months early!  My son was to leave in May and on December 7, he received a call that he could go in 5 days.  He left Dec 12, 2011.  I was in a fog through the holidays.  But after seeing him last weekend and now being able to talk and text, my heart is over-flowing with pride.  It was amazing to see the transformation from boyhood to man.  Everyone told me that would be the case but until I saw him.....ahhhmazing! I am going to try and upload a picture he sent me today.  Blessings to all of you who are just beginning this journey,  There are days when you think your heart is breaking in two missing your boy so!  But then when you get to see him in those dress blues and the ceremony...words just do not give that experience justice!

Hi family!  Received "the letter" yesterday, and my SR graduates April 13th!

mchughes90... my daughter left for boot camp 9 days ago.  Her delayed enlistment stretched out over 8 months, and my emotions became more raw every day.  I'm surprised how much better I feel after such a short time, though.  Seems a lot like childbirth... hurts when you're going through it, but the result is well worth the pain and effort!

efarmer... Congratulations!!!

Hey Tennessee Navy Moms!  I am a Tennessean by birth and a UT Volunteer by the grace of God!  We live in Smyrna outside of Nashville but I have lived in Knoxville and am originally from Chattanooga.  Soooo, I am a Tennessee gal through and through! My son graduated from boot camp last weekend and it was an experience that I will never forget!  My boy was transformed into a man in 10 weeks!  We are so, so proud.

I have a question.  His first paycheck was in January 2012; however, he received a 2011 W2 with Retirement Plan checked.  Can anyone tell me why he received that for 2011 when he wasn't paid?  I am assuming a contribution was made but why when he had no income?  We've already done his taxes for 2011 before that came!  I would appreciate any insight anyone could offer.

Hello from Elizabethton.  Haven't been "here" in a while so just thought I would say hello.  My son is now in Oklahoma City studying at Tinker AirForce Base--Navy Aircrew.

I'm so thankful for this site and all the info and support provided.  What a comfort to be surrounded by others who share this experience.

Hello from the Knoxville area. I am new to Navy for Moms, to anything military, and to navigating my way through this networking format. My daughter left for bootcamp yesterday, and I'm still numb.

Hi everyone I just got my daughters PIR form in the mail. I don't think I have ever been so happy to go to the mailbox. I just got back from the post office where I mailed her 5 letters from where I have been writing her since she left on the 18th.

My son flew out of  Knoxville yesterday, and arrived at boot camp. I recv'ed my phone call at 2:15am. That was the best phone call that I have ever gotten!
