Evening all....Ive been reading the posts from the PIR group one week ahead of us. Im very encouraged. The moms are all getting letters and calls now so that should be us next week. I will love getting letters but I must say that I cant wait to hear Davids voice. I dont remember if I shared this picture with you all but we had family pics taken just before David left for BC....he is the one closest to you with the dark glasses.

Hello ladies! Talked to my sailor Wednesday night and for a few seconds last night. His leave starts 10/1 (after A school graduation) and he doesn't have to report back until 10/12 soooo it appears that we will have several days with Matt, my DIL and grand-dog. Let the 63 day count down begin. wooo hooo!

judyann - I vote for it being harder on the mom! At least our sailors "know" what's going on even if they don't like it. I'm one of those moms (as I suspect many others are the same) who never missed an event my boys were involved in, our house had a revolving door for their friends and we were pretty much in the loop. While he was in bootcamp, I wondered and worried every day.

Cathy, Trace was at GL end of May through mid-August. Some of the worst weeks of my life. But it definitely gets easier.

Becky....Im so glad that you will be there to see the IKE come in :)) Have a safe trip.
Thank you all for your encouragement !! I so appreciate that. I do realize he only wrote that short note after only being there 4 days so Im optimistic that his next letter or phone call will be a lot more positive.
Have a wonderful day. Hugs to all

Maureen - their emotions go up and down. At least that's the way our letters were. They get exhausted, you get a bummed out letter. Their division wins a flag, you get an excited letter. The first 4-5 weeks, they are getting the "Navy Way" beat into their heads and everything is repetition, repetition, repetition. Really, how exciting can it be to learn the "correct" way to iron a bath towel? And then do it over and over and over. THEN they start doing hands on stuff like Marlin Spike, damage control, etc and they get to use what has been beat into their heads. That's when my sailor started getting excited.

Just be prepared for letters to be up and down, up and down. Then the absolute pride you'll feel in your heart and the pride in his voice after Battle Stations and says hey, I did it! I'm a Sailor!

Keep writing him every day and encourage him!! Then come to N4Ms and vent. Most of us have been where you are!!

Recieved the form letter today....Son is NOT happy at boot camp. When I read the letter to hubby, he said that its not at all uncommon that he would feel that way after only 4-5 days there. Im just hoping that things improve and by the time I get another letter, he will be much better. Sigh.......
