You'll get a form letter in about two weeks (from when they leave). It will have the address that your child will have written in the available blanks. Ours also had the date of his PIR/graduation and about three sentences written by him about how he was doing. After we got that form letter is when we began the letter blitz.

Maureen - where did you see address and PIR date at? I cannot make anything of the address on the box except Great Lakes, IL. Was that info on the label where the return address is at?

Maureen, The Albany is now a submarine. Guess this is a "small world" moment. My son just past his 4 yr mark and I'm sure it was just yesterday that he left for boot. It does get easier, but I still miss him every single day. We were all so naive in the beginning because we had never had a close family member in the navy. Neither of us knew what to expect. It was awful. But we got through the worst of it, and I am so very proud of him and my other non-military sons.

I wont send any pictures or anything embarrasing lol. Nicola...my step son is an AM....My hubby is a retired AS ( Aviation Ground Support). I think thats so sweet that your son left a I love you background on his phone. Im starting a writing campaign trust me, he may get more mail then he wants lol.
Wanda....I think thats great. He found his calling and is where he should be. My sons plan is to be a Corpsman, go to college and get his psychology degree and then change to officer. Thats the plan at this moment, could change I suppose.
No Traces Mom I dont but whats funny...is that my Dad was aboard a USS Albany in WWII but then it was a battleship...is it still ?
