We went in 2005!  They were in the process of remodeling the base, so every car was inspected and we went early and still had a long line of cars just to get to the gate.  Then we waited outside in snow flurries to get inside.  but it was worth every minute!

Barbie, I went twice - once in 2008 for my son.  We had to wait in a LONG line to get into RTC because they were inspecting every car.  Then, we had to wait in another LONG line for ID checks.

I went again in 2009 with a friend.  We took a shuttle over so we skipped the first long line and we dropped off right at the front gate.  We stood in line of about 10 people had our ID checked and walked right in.

Right - get there early!!!!

We arrived for PIR around 7am and made it through security, parked walked to the hall and checked in by 7:45am. Took a few pics inside the hall and found nice seats before the ceremony began.

We stayed at the LaQuinta in Gurnee when we went to PIR. It is further from the base but close to the mall they all want to go to and within walking distance there was a Joe' Crab Shack, Olive Garden and an IHOP. It was also not far from Six Flags.
Barbie it does take some time to get through security then you have a good distance to walk to the hall. Once you get there you have to give them your name and show your id to make sure you are on his list. We arrived before 7am.

I THINK the train runs behind RTC a few block away.  I would not have wanted to walk it when I went in February - the snow was 12 feet deep (at least it seemed that way)!!

Also, I don't think it runs to O'Hare - but somewhere in Chicago!  I flew into Midway because it was cheaper, though.

Hey I read somewhere that there is a train from the airport (O'Hare) to the RTC.  Does anybody know for sure?

Happy Hump Day Texas Ladies....enjoying these cooler temps but need lots of HOT coffee!

We stayed at the Navy Lodge for our Sailor's PIR ceremony too. I don't recall them having a shuttle but it may have changed since then.

As Brenda already stated, it is very inexpensive and close to the base. Many families of recruits stayed there as well. We had a room with a small kitchenette.

Our Sailor will be home tomorrow.....exicted we get to ring in the New Year together!!

Navy Lodge site states they also have shuttle service to the base. Guess we will find out next week!
