I have a question related to Thanksgiving and the Adopt a Solider program.  My son is in the division that will be able to participate in this.  I can not go visit with him for Thanksgiving (live in Texas) but I have my mom, sisters and brother that live only 3 hours away from there and if they can make it to go see him, how would I find out about places that they could go in the area near Great Lakes to take him and spend the day with him and have Thanksgiving meal?  Like I stated, they live 3 hours away so the rule about the SR's not being able to go more than 50 miles away limits them to not being able to take him to their home for the day.  Any suggestions?  I really hope they can make it to spend this day with him because he has never been away from me for the holidays so I really would like it if he could at least be with some of his family.

I do like the sign in thing. Why is this the only n4m site that does this?

Eaglemom... I, too, wish you were going. I would like to meet you.

First letter arrives week 4 usually, sometimes a bit earlier. Those first 4 weeks are the most difficult. You will get your "kid in a box" and then about a week later the "form letter"... after that it will still be two weeks (end of week 4). It's painful, but you can write to them everyday and be ready to put that address on everything once the form letter arrives!

How soon after they get to BC will they be able to send letters home? I really want to hear from my SR.

Eaglemom, I detect a tad bit of sadness in that " ~ " - sure wish you and the labradoodle (or whatever it was) were joining us!
