Kathy, Hi from Kilgore. It will be 6 years in September since my son's PIR, my the time has flown. It goes really slow while in Basic. Be prepared that you will get a box with her clothes & anything she had with her. My son's look like he had 2 seconds to take them off & pack up. Start writing letters now & mail them as soon as you get the address. You will not receive mail as often as you would like but keep your letters going to your sailor. Start saving for your trip to PIR & request time off from work. You di not want to miss it.

Hi jwship!  Welcome - this site has helped all of us so much!  We have ALL been where you are right now - it is a strange thing, the time you are experiencing!  It will drag...and it will fly!  Each day takes forever, waiting for a letter is so hard and then BAM - it is over, it is PIR!  You will get thru it - hang with us!

mumziepooh the 15 days would be written off as leave. Not sure about the 2 days but the 10 days are travel time that he is allowed to drive to WA and are not written off to his leave. As long as he is there by his report date it doesn't matter how many days he takes to make the drive. My son and his brother left TX 4 days before he had to report and did some sightseeing along the way. If he decides to fly I would think his travel time will be cut back. He will receive enough for travel to cover his fuel, hotel and meal expenses.

Posted in my other groups - looking for experienced wisdom.....

I have a moving to Washington question.....son has his truck in Pensacola.  We live in Houston - like 500 miles away.  He graduates on August 5.  He took 15 days leave to come home - was given 2 days travel on the front and 10 days to Whidbey Island in WA.  27 days.  Here is my question - how much of that is leave?  Is it really 27 days or does it encroach on his leave?  I wonder if he should fly up and ship his car....

mumziepooh I love to pack up houses, but will let you have the joy of dealing with your daughters belongings by yourself this time ;o)  Wish I was closer for the sewing party... hmmm, I might just talk to my husband about going on a road-trip!
