My husband, daughter and I are flying to Chicago tomorrow!  Our son graduates from boot camp this Friday morning!  I am so excited that we will be seeing him soon.  It will only be for a short time because he has a 2:00 am flight to Groton, CT Saturday morning.  We received good news in a letter we received on Tuesday. He said that he has to check in at Groton and then he will be coming home for 10 days!

Malcolm just called me that he made it to Chicago safely. I will definitely join the PIR group when I see it's posted. Thanks for the manilla envelope idea Mumziepooh! I know, I saw those racks in a video.. you're right, no space! :D As for phone numbers and addresses, I cut 2 pieces of cardstock the size of business cards and put addresses and phone numbers on them and then laminated them for him to keep in his wallet.

Thank you all for the support. My eyes are so puffy from crying it isn't even funny. Mostly because he may come home but he won't ever be here to stay again. Tonight as I was making dinner I broke down and was bawling because I won't ever have to make him a plate to stick in the microwave for him to eat when he gets home from work again. I know it's little things and probably dumb, but I loved doing those little things for him.

Thanks again for the advice, like I said, I will definitely keep it in mind.

USNavymom - I agree - welcome!  Join your PIR group when it forms (or start it yourself when you have the date)  Start writing NOW - number your letters and send them all off when you get an address - everybody will be jealous that he got so many letters all at once!  It will take about 3 weeks for him to get them and for you to get anything - Thursday was letter day at my house - mailed on Monday, took that long to get here.  My son only wrote a couple of times but it was great.  Your son needs a nice big phone card with lots of minutes on it so he can call you - activate it before you send it so he doesn't use up his time or his minutes activating it there. He needs a list of phone numbers - the kids don't memorize numbers at all.  He needs a self addressed stamped envelope with letters from you so he doesn't spend his money on that stuff.  About 4 weeks into it, I sent a big manila envelope for him to fill up with his letters and send back to me.  They have no space!

Join your PIR - you will get so much comfort and so much information from them.  There will be moms of GIRLS in there and they always have the scoop.  You know how girls are!

Hang in there - it drags and flys at the same time.

USNavyMom- I just finished being where you are now. My daughter PIR'd on June 10. Definitely join your PIR group. Those women saved my life! Also, if you have any questions or want to talk, I'd be happy to share my experience with you.

Happy Hump Day Texas Ladies!!

Amen Siana - praying for some of that wet stuff to bring relief soon!!

USnavymom - welcome aboard! I second SueS recommendation of joining the PIR group of your SR as soon as a graduation date is set. The group will give you comfort along your roller coaster journey of BC.

Rhonda, you so right. It is amazing how much they change -for the better- in just eight weeks. Usnavymom, hang in there BC really does go by fast. If there is anyway you can make it to PIR do go. It is something to see them come you sense the pride they have as they were able to navigate thru BC and complete. Battle stations. Good luck. Once the get to A school it is much better.

Usnavymom it will be hard at first but just remember the time will fly by & the next time you see your son he will be a strong man than the one that you left at the hotel. Good luck & start having now so you can go to graduation.

I talked to a medic that now works at the hospital he said at every base he was speaking from army terms--- that there are always women/girls out for our guys he said these women set themselves up to get pregnant or whatever they have to do to get our boys. He said tho every time a military guy/girl goes to a new place they are WARNED OVER AND OVER. He said that sometimes the guys get trapped. So I talked hard To my son again-- I pray they listen

Yea, Matt's mom!!!

Julie- I will pray that you will have the words and wisdom to help your son. We walk on eggshells as parents. What a tough situation, but I can honestly say, that if you DIDN'T send that page you would regret not doing it. Good luck
