Saw this on my PIR group page and just had to repost it!

Joke: The Atheist and the Sailor

A United States Sailor was attending some college courses between assignments. He had completed missions in Iraq and Afghanistan. One of the courses had a professor who was a vowed atheist and a member of the ACLU.

One day the professor shocked the class when he came in. He looked to the ceiling and flatly stated, "God, if you are real, then I want you to knock me off this platform. I'll give you exactly 15 minutes."

The lecture room fell silent. You could hear a pin drop. Ten minutes went by and the professor proclaimed, "Here I am God. I'm still waiting." It got down to the last couple of minutes when the Sailor got out of his chair, went up to the professor, and cold-cocked him; knocking him off the platform. The professor was out cold.

The Sailor went back to his seat and sat there, silently. The other students were shocked and stunned and sat there looking on in silence.

The professor eventually came to, noticeably shaken, looked at the Sailor and asked, "What the hell is the matter with you? Why did you do that?"  The Sailor calmly replied, "God was too busy today protecting America’s soldiers who are protecting your right to say stupid *@#$ and act like an *&%#$. So, He sent me."

Oh my, that is horrible.  Prayers to his family & friends.  I hope some day his friends will be able to move past this.

How horrible!  I had not heard that, but will definitely remember his family and friends.  Sometimes our children see humor in the stupidest things.  I pray his friends that were with him are able to continue their Navy careers.

A sailor from California was killed as he attempted to beat a Metra train with a group of Navy friends Tuesday night. Coroner Dr. Richard Keller said the pedestrian, identified as Chase Church, 23, of California, was dead on the scene.

Keller said Church was a recent Navy graduate at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center and was attempting to run across the tracks to beat the train when he was hit. He was with other Navy friends who also ran in front of the train, he said. Please pray for this family.

Thank you Rhonda; I appreciate it!  I have now learned the relationship has ended.  Hopefully, he walks away with lessons learned & soon God will mend his broken heart.

We managed to dig out & survive that wicked storm you mentioned.  That is one we will all be talking about for a while.

SimplyJRB - I will be happy to include your sailor and his girlfriend in my prayers.  It is very hard to have a relationship without being on opposite ends of the country!  Will pray for discernment and wisdom in their relationship.  Even when our children are grown ups it is hard to know they are suffering in some way.

We are watching for a blizzard to hit Oklahoma tomorrow.  We don't get anything near a blizzard very much so it is scary for most people.  Please keep everyone who lives in these horrible snow storm areas in your prayers for Travel Mercies and Protection.  I am not too concerned as I don't work outside the home.  As long as the electricity is on or my generator is running and I can at least read, I am okay.  Have an awesome week!

Rhonda you hit the nail on the head there.  I don't know how I would have survived my son going thru boot camp without the N4Ms friends I have made!

Right now I would like some prayers though.  My son met a girl during boot camp & they are now at opposite ends of the US.  Prayers for them, that they can either figure out how to make it work or break it off.  The whole on the fence situation is tearing my son up.  They knew going into it that it would long distance & that it would not be easy.  I just want them to be happy.

Yes, Ashs's Mom, we do have an AWESOME GOD!  Hang in there, I remember how it was to have my son in Boot Camp.  He has been in over 4 years now and has definitely found his place in life.

Anytime you need an ear or shoulder, N4M is the place to be.  Most of us on here have been through what you are going through right now and are willing to help in anyway we can.

Look for a group for her PIR date and or her Div/ship number.  That way you can get to know other parents/wives/girlfriends/boyfriends before PIR and meet before the ceremony.  Life long friends are made during boot camp for Ash and for you!  If there is no group, you can start one!  It is not hard to do.

Will keep you both in my prayers!  And WELCOME!

I'm a new Navy mom - daughter left Wednesday.  I told her the moon would watch over us no matter how far away we are from each other...God must of heard us talking because he sent the biggest, brightest moon I've ever seen Wednesday night.  What an awesome God we serve!!
