Wanda: If it were my son I wouldn't say anything until after PIR. He's under enough stress right now and there lives revolve around things be okay on the home front. My son's dog died in her sleep 6 months before Matt left for boot camp. Just my opinion. My heart goes out to Josh and you. You'll find the right time to tell him.

Welcome Mary! Glad you found us. Isn't PIR just the most awesome thing you've ever witnessed? My son PIR'd in February and it seems like it was just yesterday. I wished I lived in GL and could go see that every Friday. What a blessing!

Hi Jessica, Welcome to our new world. My son had his PIR with Daylene's son and I agree with her...it was amazing. The time will feel like its dragging, some weeks more than others but it does pass. I hope you'll get extra time with your son since it's Thanksgiving. Maybe you can stay in a hotel that has a kitchen:)
My son is in VA for A school, his classes just started today and he's happy to be busy again.
This is a great site...have fun reading and getting to know all the wonderful people. I will keep you and your son in my prayers. Wow 14 grandkids!! Congratulations

It's so sad....I don't understand why people would stay...I've never been in the situation...but many times the rescue workers are put in danger because of having to rescue those that don't want to leave til its too late. The train wreck is just terrible. The death toll is now at 23 (still expected to rise) with 140 injured. The cause has been reported. Apparently the metrolink conductor failed to stop at a red light. In Ca. we are watching Ike and the train. Hang on all you folks in Ike's path...your in my prayers!

Yes, absolutely. There is a mom from our group that is hunkered down weathering out the storm tonight. Prayers for all

I'm in So. Cal and watching the news...there has been a terrible train wreck. So far there are 9 fatalities, and at least 70 injured and so many people still trapped. Please pray for the victims and families. I hope all of you are doing well and your sailors too.

When I worked at my parish, I received calls/letters from personnal in other parishes inquiring as to the "Good standing" of a parishioner. Inquires usually pertained to:

All sacraments (majority of requests)
Visiting priets/permission to preside

Never had a call/letter from the military.

Some follow the letter of the law; some follow the spirit of the law. And I woud imagine a Navy chaplain would follow the letter of the law. Just a hunch.

That's interesting Carolyn, and what an honor for your son to be asked. My parish is so large I wonder what they would say. Maybe look up our records and see that the family attends regularly. Melissa have you ever heard of that happening??

My son asked for more verses to be sent to him...could you all give me your favorites please :)

Trish, thank you for reminding us, who sometimes forget, there is weather in this country that causes a huge loss to a lot of families. I will pray tonight for all those effected by Fay.
Blessings to you for bringing us together!
