Congratulations Patty! Being a Grandma is a very special time in your life, and brings lots of joy. You are a young one too, so you`ll be able to do lots of fun things with him. I was only 42 when the first grandson was born--the one that is in Iraq, and coming home soon. Have fun!

Oops! It is the Riverine site that has the recent info.

Yes, the first deployment is very hard. I got a lot of support from the Riverine site here on Navy for Moms. I dread the next deployment too, and am wondering where they will send them next. It helps to send packages to them. It gives you something worthwhile to do that you know helps them. I am so thankful for email too. The site titled "Anyone with sailors/soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan" has recently had some info on the Riverines.

I had heard the replacements were`nt going to Iraq, and I can see why you are wondering where they will end up. That`s how I feel about my grandson`s next deployment, whenever that may be. My grandson is unexpectedly missing the holidays because of the changes. That`s good your son will be home this year after missing last year. I am hoping to get to Virginia to be with the rest of his family to welcome him home.

My Riverine is my grandson, and he is in Iraq right now.He is in Rivron One, Detachment Three. How about your son? My grandson has been a Riverine about 1 1/2 years also. We are about 5 hours from Syracuse--wish we were closer.

Are there any Navy Riverine Moms/Grandmas in the Glens Falls-Rutland-Saratoga? I love near Ticonderoga.

Thank you KK, I have been here since Aug. 2nd... I can't wait to meet you Sept. 1st! I am driving to BUF to fly out on a direct flight on Southwest. Not sure where to "leave/park" car yet.

Good Morning everyone....9 more days until I see my son at PIR and hopefully the 4 days following. Just a reminder to all I am here now in Rochester. So good to hear about the Military Rooms in airports...I wonder if they are in most airports around the country. As it stands now, he will stay at GL for about 9 more days then flown to SD. Have a great day!

Rob`s Mom Ship 11 Div 113, Thanks for the info on the Albany airport. My grandson flies in and out of there sometimes, and that Military room sounds nice. I fly from there too, so I might even go there for some support. Where is it located?
