For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

i agree Gail. My son is only 21 but i had just mentioned to him how mature he has become from this experience. I told him that i know its hard but they are making their way and thats all they can do..;) Im so happy to come on this site and know that there are others out there going thru the same thing at the same time.. My son will be thankful to hear that your son has been doing all hes been doing. They have to clean the house they live in now and have it inspected..then they have to paint it back to the way it was when they moved in..they have to deal with signing papers and get leave to move, etc...all this and they had to go to sea. Plus he had duty the day before they pulled out. PLUS (lol..im sorry)...her parents decided to visit them this past weekend, so they were busy entertaining..so i know they are feeling some anxiety. But i will pass this on to them and they will be grateful. This eases my mind as well.:) Also...my son is good at shoveling..we live on top of a hill here in PA. Our driveway is 1/4 mile long and straight up..so hes a pro...plus theyre young!!...lol

Gail....NO WAY!!!!!...lol...im so happy to 'meet' you. I worry about them all the time and im so glad they found someone to live with. Not only financially...but just to pass the time while they are staying up there...like i said..we have relatives that hail from there and they have been warning me about the hard winters. My son said that he and the others (your son..haha) will probably carpool to make it easier. Im anxious to go visit the place. theyve sent me a link to view it on line and my husband is excited to go up now....he thinks hes going to see a moose..hahahaha! .Im excited to finally talk to someone who knows my family and i so appreciate all your son has done in helping out with this house. oh you dont know how much better this makes me feel..:)) thank YOU! and maybe we will be visiting at the same time..;))

proudnavymom....how upsetting for him im sure. There are a few moms on another group i am in and they said their sons are disappointed also because they have not even stepped foot on a boat yet and its been 3 years! I hope your son gets to know the crew and makes some good friends. They are a great group of Sailors. ..:) And to live so close to where they are/were stationed would have been wonderful,:)

:) Yes we live in Maine...as of this past July. We were living in Middleboro MA which was only 1 1/2 hours from Groton...If we had been still in MA we would of been the same amount when they moved, but we are in northern ME..way northern! So now we will be over 5 hours from them. Oh well...we have some good friends who are part way and we may get to meet them part way there! Not sure what airports that are near Kittery. May be easier to fly to Boston or Portland and take bus to Portsmouth.

Thanks ladies..:) Heard from my son today..:)...he seems in better spirits about the move. he said he realized theres nothing he can do about it while on the boat...so hes just going to kick back and not think about it. And Mainemom...i see your screenname so i wonder how far away you are from them in NH?...how nice for your son to find a place in Maine. I have relatives from NH and they suggested my son and daughter look for a place in maine instead...saying it may be cheaper for them. We are from PA and Groton is a 9 hour drive for us so NH is going to be even further. I think we are going to fly next time we visit...hopefully there is an airport near by?? im going to check it out. Im thrilled they will be in the states for the holidays this year. We havent spent an x-mas with our son is 3 years...looking forward to it..:) Hope you all hear from your sailors soon.

Unfortunately the area they are all moving to is an expensive area to live. Probably much like Groton. My son found a place in Maine.
Rebecca, my son is not on this underway. He starts a class on Monday and was left to attend that.

I'm sorry Janlee that your son and daughter-in-law have been having such a hard time finding a place in NH. I'll say a prayer that they may find a place and make an easy transition too.
Mainemom, I'm glad to hear your "kids" have already found a place.
My son hasn't even mentioned going up to look for a place. He's single at the moment. Lol. He mentioned after coming back from the underway that he will go up there with a friend and get settled in on base in the barracks. Has anyone heard from their son this underway yet? I know they haven't been out long. Yet, since my son usually doesn't write very often. I usually peice together what is going on through the information I gather from you, moms. Hope everyone is doing well. I'm looking forward to chatting with you all. =)

I keep coming here to post but for some reason i keep getting signed out??. I havent posted for a while...but im excited to think that this is their last underway. Im hoping. Have any of your sons had trouble getting housing in NH?..my son and his wife kept getting passed up on the list and they finally made the drive up there to look for an apartment. They found one but its a good way away from the base and they had to get others to move in with them due to the cost. They have a dog...and this is what kept them from finding a decent place close. Shes a Husky and fairly large..and most places wouldnt accept her. they are at their wits end and i wish i was there to help (you know how hard it is to watch them struggle). Plus having an underway so close to moving time is hard on them. i know my son wants nothing more than to be home, taking care of all this. Looking forward to the end...lol
