Hi Everyone...my son is with Barry "on loan." He was on another destroyer; got back from the Mediterreanean July 31, then found out a week ago he was deploying with this ship as they needed someone who could do his job. He wasn't due to deploy for another year. We are still not sure how long he will be on board...we have heard 60 or 90 days but also could be the whole deployment due to budget concerns. Needless to say...quite the shock to him, his wife and all family members. On his last deployment, there was no skyping on the ship. Only when in ports. Glad to see some action on this site.
Hi Janet;
From what I understand, the only time they'll be able to Scype is when they're in port, but not on the ship while at sea. I was hoping that, also.
Hi, my stepson is on USS Barry. I know they have email but am hoping they will have Skype access.
Hello to All;
Definitely not much action here Brenda. Since our young men and women are on their way to new adventures on the US Barry, it would be nice to start posting to this blog again. Hope to hear from other mothers, wives, girlfriends, etc. If there is another blog already going, can someone please let me know. Thanks!
Not much action in here - but there is on this ship. I found this article that I thought some of you might be interested in. ENJOY!! I found it pretty interesting!

It's great that you're going to see him soon! Sorry....can't help with any recommendations as I haven't been there yet. My son also likes the area and crew on the ship. He's actually coming home on leave for a bit right after Christmas. We're holding off all the Holiday celebrating till he gets here. He's arriving on my birthday, so how can you top that for a gift??
Hope you enjoy your visit and some nice weather. We're from the Chicago area and have had a very mild season, so far....but I know we're going to get blasted any time.
Thanks he has been there for a while now and loves it! I am headed to visit him on Monday and take a tour of the ship. Any reccomendation to eat ect....
Hi Five0....My son also went from Great Lakes to the USS Barry back in July. Currently, the ship is dry docked for repair and updating. I'm not sure when it's shipping out again, but it probably won't be until spring. Hope your son is having a positive experience.
Hello All;
So glad to find this group. Haven't been on this website since my son was in boot camp. He reported to the USS Barry last week.
