USS Bataan LHD-5

Group for family members of Sailors who are on the USS Bataan (LHD-5)

Members: 144
Latest Activity: Aug 25, 2019

I decided to start this group to see who else may have a Sailor on this ship; or heading to this ship.

Granted, we may be a bit limited to what we can discuss openly online, but if nothing else, may be a good way to connect and network off-line as well.

Make sure to not disclose advance ship movements or other OPSEC issues.

My son is an FC2 on this ship.

Also I'm in a group on FB that has been an awesome resource and has a pretty impressive (according to the CO) FRG: https://www.facebook.com/groups/198350693533193/ Look for Krista Bowers when you get there, she says she would be more than happy to answer any questions anyone has.

I so wish I could be there for send off, but I won't be able to either. I plan to be there for the home coming. This is my son's first deployment so I am not sure what all to expect either. Keeping up here and on the ship Facebook pages. I am kinda getting sad already. Gonna miss him so so much!

We are planning on attending send off. I don't know if we are on the ombudsman list (or what the email address is) so would appreciate any information you can provide on this site. Sometimes it is more informative than the official word. Thank you. We fly in on the 5th and are registered at the Lodge already.

Hi all -
I'm going to Norfolk for the send off but as this is my sons first deployment I'm not exactly sure what happens during the send off. Is it basically everyone gathers at the pier when they leave or is there more to it than that? Sorry, as I re-read this it sounds like a really stupid question but all this Navy stuff is new to me (my husband is retired Air Force). Thanks for your help.
