Hi ladies!  Just returned from my annual mini vacation at the lake with my girlfriend from Illinois!  Friends for 40 years so lots of memories and lots of laughs!

I was surprised to hear from my sailor that he received both care packages during the last mail delivery.  I figured he would get the one I mailed on July 15, but was shocked he got the one I mailed on July 26!  For me that has to be record time!!!  His July 26 package was a "taste of Maine."  He said he wanted a lobster :-)   So, I sent him gummy lobsters and a little wind up lobster toy :-)

Myersboy...I had also included food!  I heard there were more marines than usual and their snack store supplies were going quickly!  Are you a grandma yet?

Nice hearing from all of you!

   Take care!

Cathy

I heard from my son this morning :)  He needs me to send food.  This has been his very 1st request ever.  Ahhhhhhhhhhh......He still needs me.  That's a great feeling.  We are anxiously awaiting the arrival of our grandson (his nephew).  He has informed us that skype is not an option and that we will just have to facebook him when he is born.

Comment by Kim on July 25, 2013 at 1:52pm

Marianne, he has looked at different options.  LN was a good option for him, but now he is looking at the mecp program.  He qualifies and has calculus and physics, but it would be better if he took more recent science classes.  He is married and 29, so shore duty to him is a time to advance his career.

Kyann, he is laughing about going to the Essex.  He hid candy there and is going to go looking for it.  Jonathan had a great time in Australia.  It helped that they got moved to Cairns (resort town) and got time off.  I remember that I subscribed to their newspaper while they were there.  The Australians made such a big deal of them because they don't usually dock there.  I hope your sailors were able to explore the culture.

Kim - It is great to hear from you and an update on your sailor.  Could you explain your comment....He is working on his officer package and is hoping to be able to take the classes that he need while on shore duty. .... 'officer package'?

If he is moving to New England, he certainly will be much closer to you!

Kyann, Yes, I had read the articles. Sorry Hunter didn't think much of Australia.  Did he have much liberty time while there?

marianne, i haven't heard that much from hunter, other than Australia wasn't all he thought it was going to be, whatever that means.

you probably heard about what happened with the bombs and the coral reef?  it's on the news and facebook, etc...

tina, that was great!

kim, how does he feel about heading back to the Essex?

Comment by Kim on July 24, 2013 at 12:22pm

Hi everyone, I am still here.  I still read the posts (I had to catch up on a month)

Love the pictures Tina and congrats.  I hope things work out for Steven.

For all the moms whose sailors where on the Essex before it swapped with the BHR....My son is headed to the Essex until October.  He was supposed to be cross rating to LN and that got cancelled at the last minute.  He was without orders and due for shore duty.  Now he is headed to school to become a recruiter in October.  His ship is deploying, so they are moving him to the Essex.  He is working on his officer package and is hoping to be able to take the classes that he need while on shore duty.  His orders are Boston, but I guess that means anywhere in New England.  I better re-join the Essex.

Wow! That certainly was special....and a wonderful thing for him to do!!
