Thanks much!
Hello... I am new to this site, new to USS Bunker Hill, new to deployment,etc... I see your comment below about receiving emails and my son told me before leaving that he gave my emails to some family support group that would keep us in touch. I assume this is the same thing, but we have not received any. Will he know where to email to get out contact information sent? Any help would be great. Thanks
Thanks Mary c~!

Hi does anyone have any details about Family Day on the USS Bunker Hill for Monday June 23, 2014 sailing from San Diego to Los Angeles???
Hi there, it's been a while since I've been on Navy Moms .... My youngest son has been assigned to the Bunker Hill for a while. My oldest son just got deployed to Afghanistan on Feb 13 that's a new experience for me appreciate any suggestions /helpful information
Hi Navy-mom, My son was also in OS a couple of years ago, and he is out now. When we visited him, I stayed in a hostel/hotel in downtown SD called 500 West on 500 west broadway. Not fancy, but nice. The bus from the airport takes you to within 2 blocks of the hotel in 10 or 15 minutes, so no car was needed to go there. If all you wanted to do was go to the nearby attractions, the seafront is within walking distance (5 blocks) as well as tour buses to tour the city. The bus system is excellent and for $5 you could ride the bus all day. The bus drivers are friendly and helpful to get you to your destination. A car would be helpful if you wanted to go to outer attractions like the SD safari park. Inner destinations, the parking is hard. And 500 west doesn't have parking. On a later visit we stayed at a Howard Johnsons in Chula Vista. The farther south you go in SD the worse it gets as far as safety goes. My son warned me not to go out at night in Chula vista. But in downtown SD I felt pretty safe. I still didn't go out at night. :) Thank you and thank you to your son for your service.
