Good ideas Elane and everyone. I have done the same - sealed every edge of box, pack so there is no extra room, put entire contents in large plastic bag etc. I hope they enjoy everything that they will be getting and opening up(I say 'they' since I think my LO can't eat everything!!
On one of the sites - someone posted that they were told not to send anything homemade with eggs or milk products - because of the temperatures in shipping - and they may go bad. Was going to send oatmea/raisin cookies but may not. I seal almost everything in plastic bags or containers - so he can use for cooking or storage. Hopefully they are not too crumbled etc upon arrival.
Thank-you my online 'friends' for sharing - we are all in this together -- to help support our loved ones and the friends/ family at home
Welcome RDRPP --
Welcome to the group RDRPP
Try looking in the store for the cheap plastic like Gladware to put/pack the cookies in after wrapping them in saran/wax paper. A cheaper alternative to Tupperware. I got some that were like $1.00 for 4 or on clearance cheaper. Sailor can then use the container for "cooking" things in like Ramen noodles, Easy Mac packages, etc. Vacuum sealing them would help as well..it won't protect the shape but it will the freshness tho. The more full the box is the less chance of stuff shuffling inside the box. I use wrapped candy (tootsie rolls, jolly ranchers, Starburst or fun packs of Skittles) to fill in the "cracks". using ziplock bags around most everything that might split or dent, will help keep it from being all over everything. Like the pudding cups I sent today. I also tape shut every edge of the box, for 2 reasons: 1 to keep the creepy crawlies out and 2 to help maintain the integrity of the box. Hopefully we can all let each other know what works or not.
I consider you all my extended "Navy family" and hope we can all support/help each other during this "cruise".
Good morning/afternoon every one! Missed chatting with B yesterday as I was back at the docs, blood pressure again had to have EKG wow will this ever end!
Hopefully will get to chat with her today sometime! I send a bunch of those camo plastic eggs filled with jelly beans but when I handed them to my friend who works at the local post office i think some of them must have opened and you could hear the jelly beans moving all around the box lol! Oh well they will still be edible! I dread to think what the chocolate bunny i sent will look like when it arrives probably all melted! Oh well just have to drink it!
I have some breakfast bars that I make Oats & Honey and Date & Cranberry I was thinking of sending some and putting them in vac seeled bags, maybe even freezing them before shipping! Any ideas? Do you think they would make it?
