While mentioning what they do on off duty time while still onboard the ship doesn't necessarily compromise much, it is ALWAYS best to err on the side of caution. Please people, remember that my sailor, the father of my children, is on that ship as well. His safety is more important to me than knowing where he is all the time or knowing what he is doing. I ask simply that you would respect that as it seems that that is not happening much here. There are plenty of people/groups out there who would love to know the morale and loaction of our crew and keeping our sailors (you children, my husband, somebody's wife, someone elses parent) safe should be the number one priority. Not whether or not you hear from them every day!

I think mentioning their on-ship off-duty activities is okay.  As long as you are NOT mentioning specific location of ship, or dates it's due to do what.   The fact that they get a picnic, BBQ, or ice cream social doesn't compromise the security of their location or mission at hand.  I'm glad to hear they are able to have some social activities and some down time..  Glad it's not all Work, work, work.

Good morning everyong, hope everyone has had a good weekend. Hope our sailors are well and glad to know they get some down time, I know they are glad to get it. I do get an email everyday from my son, it may be short, but I will take what I can get just to know he is okay.

@cheffiona glad we get the updates from B and hope she is doing well from the surgery and you get everything fixed with your router soon. I know that that can be frustrating.

For everyone else, POPTARTS! My husband and his shop cannot get enough of them. Every once in a while they'll have them on the mess decks but if you're there too late, you miss out. They're always a nice surprise. Girl scout cookies too!

@navynana- they won't figure it out, they're the Navy, God bless them but there are definitely some things that could change that would make things a lot easier.
