@Michelle yes they have a microwave in the galley! I have sent B chef boyadee popcorn etc microwavable stuff already! I know I saw one when I was in the galley maybe there is more!
B said she would try and use payphone when they are allowed to but i have to say the att plan that she has is great with the international plan and I dont pay a thing on mine as im att too. But we will see when 1st bill comes in but that friday and saturday in san diego before deployment her and hubby spent a long time researching all phones and plans etc and this was by far the best and the cheapest including the international calls!!
But I will ask her about the phone cards when she calls!
My son e-mailed me last night said that the phone cards on ship are not worth it, not sure why, but he said he already looked into that. Cheffiona can you check with B and see what she thinks about them.
Also he did tell me that he has access to a microwave so he said Campbell's handi soups would be good to send and popcorn too. I would assume that if he has access to a microwave and he is not an officially assigned to the ship then the regular sailors on the ship should have access to them too.
Welcome Nelly to the group, this is my sons second deployment and I don't know that they get any easier, I think you just learn a little more on what to expect each time I guess. But, this is nice to have this group of women to lean on for support. We are all here for each other and to pray for all our sailors.
I know that my son had his phone put on military hold until he comes back and he has a verizon phone, it was much cheaper to do it that way.
I did order a ship to shore phone card from the NEX for my son a few days ago -thought he could call his sister next month for her birthday,she'd be thrilled - I will let everyone know how long it takes to reach him. I thought about just having him purchase cards from the ships store but not sure of his accts since he moved.
@cheffiona and BM3Simswife -- nice pictures !!
@email from B she said she has ship to shore! And they can call when the phones are opened!
@nelly welcome to our group yes it is overwhelming but this is my daughters first deployment too! What does your husband do? You dont have to say names! If there are any questions you would like to ask please feel free there family members in this group that have been through deployments before so they are more knowledgable but feel free to ask we are all here for eachother and are in the same ship (no pun intended) lol! Welcome!
