Hello, my son graduated today from Bootcamp. He already has his orders to ship May for this ship. I'm glad to be a part of this!

Navybluemom i guess they are trying to show that they have left the nest, and will continue to get along fine without us. We have planted the seeds and watered them for years. We have also set the path for them, even placed them on that path. It is now up to them to stay on that path. They are just trying to be responsible young men. Besides overseas is a great experience for them, and the pay is much better than what they would receive by staying in the states.

My son has been calling and skyping fairly regular. He calls to talk to his baby brother, although I want to believe he is calling to talk to me. Also facebook helps a lot, he has been posting photos so we all kinda follow along. To go from never being away from my son to have him 6,480 miles away is killing me. I'm so happy that our children/loved ones made the choices they did. We are all soooo proud I'm sure. Thank you to your families for your sacrifices. GO NAVY!!!

I rarely heard from my son while he was in Japan and on the Denver. I got maybe four calls or letters from him in the first year. He was too into his new life. I tended to only hear from him when things went wrong, or when he remembered I exist.

My son is new to the USS DENVER, a week now. He loves Japan.

They will probably do a "hull swap" when it comes time to decommission the Denver. Basically, a crew from the US will sail their nice new ship to Japan, take all their personal stuff to the Denver, while the Denver sailors switch to the new ship. Then the crew from the other ship sails the Denver back to the US to be decommissioned. That's what they have done with the past few Sasebo ships.

Basically, the Navy doesn't want to pay for the families of two ships to move overseas. So they leave everyone right where they're at. Only the ships change places.

Hey - water restored . . . no more port-a-potties on the barge.

Hi, my son is no longer on the Denver, but he has good memories of his time onboard.

Just a note- as of last weekend's official retirement of the USS Enterprise, the USS Denver became the oldest actively commissioned ship in the Navy. There are only two older - the USS Constitution and the USS Pueblo - which hold special commissions.
