My husband is an OS. Or Radar Geek as he tells people. They chart coordinates on the maps, make sure they're not gonna run into any other ships, whales, land, etc.

And no Shirley. I haven't gotten an email today either. :[ Last time I got one was at... 6am? So while it's the same day to me, it's a new day for them [they're about 24hrs ahead now].

Ok... so I'm having a really bad night. I'm at work. On the verge of tears and my day's just begun and I'm done with it. I'm so tired. I work the night shift but I have trouble sleeping at night, let alone during the day!! My phone goes off cause that's my only alarm and my dogs play, bark, etc until I get up to get what my "midget" wants and it's driving me crazy! I had MAYBE 4 hours of sleep today. 2 or 3 yesterday and about 4 the day before. I can't function like this doing 12hr shifts at a hospital! And on top of it all I miss Lee more than usual. And I've been having chest pains the last week or so. But I know if I go in with that as my only complaint, they're not going to do anything other than probably say to monitor it and if it gets worse, come back. Then the patient I'm getting has all sorts of issues and I'm just not at my best right now. I'm going nuts. And I'm trying to calm down but it's hard. Anyone have a smile to share????

Awe... phooey to emails stopping. That's just upsetting. I STRIVE off of them. Other than my dogs I don't have much to look forward to during the days. :[

Gotta keep busy busy busy, I guess. My apartment is going to be SO clean... the matinence guy offered to clean the carpets for us cause I was teasing saying he should! Hahaha! He just told me to call down to the office and let them know I wanted them cleaned. How awesome is that? So I'll be preparing the home for that this week. Lol. :]

Uhg. I'm not looking forward to my own possible advancment. I take the test for the first time in Sept. I need to start studying now. I got all the books a while ago, but only 2 of them arrived at my house. Strange. My rate is pretty closed. I just hope that Lee makes 2nd Class in Sept. We could use the money!

With the smoke pit, I imagine it was more than likely an issue with cleanliness. But still... from 0800 till... well I don't know till when but he emailed me at 1330 their time... Poor dear. He needs something more than just working out. I hope he hit the heavy bag yesterday to help vent. Ha! He's knocked the darn thing off the ceiling several times, and the old one... well he killed that one. Hahaha! I love my darling.
He's quiting when he gets back. We were talking about it all a while before he left. I told him that he is not allowed to be smoking when we get preggo. Then he said he could quit at that point, but he'd be a cranky grouch. And that with preggo hormones is just not a good mix. So we decided to quit before we ever get to that point. So. Once he gets back! Plus, I want to keep him around longer. <3

So what are all you ladies up to today?

Btw, You know how they were falling behind hours? Now, Lee said, by today they should be 24hrs AHEAD. Haha, he's having difficulty wrapping his head around it apparently. I know I am.

Advancing is very competitive, and every rate is different, even from year to year. Most sailors don't make it on the first cycle, some take a few tries get enough points built up. They test twice a year, so he should keep studying, work on getting good evals, and find out what will increase his points and strive for those achievements.

Shirley, it is indeed a big tests, items consist of their knowledge of their rate, leadership and military questions. It is also has factors such as their evals, and points for awards and things such as NAMs and ESWS pins. They get points for passing the exam the cycle before. The Navy can't advance everyone who passes the test, they select a certain number based on manning levels.

Closed the smoke pit? Yikes. We've been bugging Troy to quit.

They can smoke on the weather decks during daylight hours, usually. Hubby says they probably left the pit a mess, or some other infraction. But there's no after dark smoking, he says they're not supposed to be out on the decks after dark unless they're on watch or doing something official. Too many sailors fell off too many ships over the years that way. Battlegroups tended to lose a sailor or two every deployment, just from something as dumb as falling off the ship at night. Safety record has improved, I hear.

Julie, I got an email from my husband about an hour ago. He said his group is doing good, minus the fact that the XO closed the smoke pit... sorry for all your sons that smoke... Uhg. My husband is stressed as it is. This definitely doesn't help. Thank goodness he's quiting when he gets back. :[

Sorry your sick Shirley, hope you get some rest and feel better.

Wow M. That's ridiculous. Some people just shouldn't be in. That's the main problem I have with the Navy-- dealing with all the stupid, inconsiderate people! Oh my gosh. Military baring, fine. Chits, Chain of command, whatever. Uniform instaed of scubs at the hospital, ok. But someone SAVE my SANITY with all the "idjits" running around. Haha.

And about the jumping through hoops nonsense Pam, I know what you mean. It's ridiculous! I don't get it sometimes. Uhg.

RHW, LOL, yeah. Mine were all POs, you'd think they'd have learned. Most of my stories involve technical stuff, like the guy we got because he tried to hand a tool to another tech through and open and powered up transmitter. Lucky to be alive with all that high voltage. They sent him to us, figuring he couldn't kill anyone or himself in our shop. He couldn't work on most of our gear, so we gave him easy tasks to do,like cleaning filters. He managed to damage six pieces of gear in one day doing that simple tack. And he was an E-5!!

Pamela, in case you're wondering, no, they aren't all top shelf. I know their mommas love them, but honestly, every sailor has a tale about a shipmate! Mine were back when the Navy wasn't quite as choosy.
