DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

I was in Diego Garcia and my sailor was in Sasebo (on the Dubuque!), he managed to get an autovon line and called me at work in the ET shop when he proposed. I had all my friends standing there! I didn't get a ring until two years later. I got a heart shaped diamond pendant instead. He had the stone cut specially in the shape of a heart. We both took leave around the same time, we married in Vegas when we had a chance. I can't imagine how planning a wedding would have gone. Our families don't live in the same states, mine was scattered through four states anyway. His mom called me "Dawn" for years. Guess what his ex's name is?

23 years now!

Looks like we're back out to sea on Pirate Patrol

"USS Dubuque (LPD 8) concluded its roll in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations in Pakistan Aug. 17.
Dubuque will return to her scheduled maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts throughout the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations."

I haven't been on here in a minute and I see that there are so many wonderful new additions to the group! Yeah!! I love all this talk about "Homecoming!" : ) I was hoping to be able to go to the "half-way party" in San Diego that is being coordinated by the FRG next week, but it's too far. : ( ....but, It would be wonderful to meet all of you during the homecoming though!
@Pamela- I'm so happy that your son is going back to the DUB!!!!! : )
@Diane - I really appreciate your positive outlook on things. Yes, we can do this!
@Shirley- I think I need to use this analogy with my son. Thanks for sharing!

This is something I learned the hard way that I would like to share with y'all. My aunt lost her son when he was 19. She has missed out on all the wonderful and heart breaking things we get to experience day to day. I have learned to treasure each day with my children and to be very thankful I have each day. As I am sure y'all are the same way. Tomorrow may not come but no one can ever take away the love I have for my children. We are luckier than a lot of moms out there. You all are great wonderful strong women.

Ok enough of my sappieness.
