I have been in Canada for the last week without my computer. I am just getting caught up. Julie, I am so sorry to hear about your mom. I am happy that you are near enough to be there for her. My mom died four years ago. The doctors gave the word that it was probably hours. They called me to drop everything and get up to Canada. The doctor told me that it was miracle that he sees a lot. She rallied when they told her that I was on the way and died peacefully shortly after. You should tell her if Kyle is on the way. My prayers are with your whole family.

Keep the faith. Trust in God and believe that he always knows what is best. The 31st of this month marks the 1st anniversary of my Dad's passing after a one-month battle with cancer. I need to remind myself of this often and that heaven is truly our home. You're in my thoughts and prayers.

Katie e-mailed and said she would be on duty 2 of the 4 days that they are in Bribane. Right now she is more interested in her favorite Tiger (Brandon Inge) playing the MLB All-Star game.

Kim, Sounds great what Jonathan has been able to do. Katie hasn't mentioned what she plans to do while in Brisbane. Katie saw Koala bears when they were visiting at the Toledo zoo and kangaroos at the Fort Wayne zoo.

We are celebrating our 25th on August 11th.

That's good news Julie.
I heard from Jonathan. He went white water rafting down the Tully. He got a dvd and photos that he promised to send us. I am sure his brothers will be jealous. He plans on going to the zoo in Brisbane. He wants to get his picture taken with a Koala bear. My parents went to Australia years ago. My mom sent him a picture of her holding a Koala. She died in 2005 and the picture is still in his room. They had good friends that live in Brisbane. I am going to Canada next week to visit my dad and plan to get their phone number and ask them if they can visit him. I want to surprise him. I hope it works out.
Julie, our 25th was May 21st. We have a small family too. Both our families live in Canada. My husbands mom passed last November (she was 92) and that was his only family. All our holidays have been small. Heck, we don't even celebrate them on the same day. July 4th is July 1st up there and their Thanksgiving is Columbus day here. Congrats to your grandchild. I am jealous.

The IRON GATOR News said the USS Essex (LHD 2) began exercise Talisman Saber 2009 (TS09) July 6 off the coast of Australia. Flu or not, these international exercises will continue.

Julie, how is your sister doing?
Tina, I hope none of the cases are serious.

What a great picture Marianne. I saw it on one of the sites that I posted. I didn't realize. Everyone should look at the pictures. There are a lot of them, but the pictures of the ship are great. They must have let someone on board to take pictures. The hospital on the ship is unbelievable. Let me know if anyone else spots their sailor.

Well, at least I know Katie got to see fireworks.

I saw this in the Navy News - 7th fleet
CAIRNS, Australia - Damage Control Fireman Apprentice Katie Krueger and Hull Technician 3rd Class Derek Marsh of the amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD-2) watch fireworks in Cairns, Australia July 4th. Essex is currently visiting Cairns before the start of exercise Talisman Saber 2009. Essex is commanded by Capt. Brent Canady and is the lead ship of the only forward-deployed U.S. Amphibious Ready Group and serves as the flagship for CTF 76, the Navy's only forward-deployed amphibious force commander. Task Force 76 is headquartered at White Beach Naval Facility, Okinawa, Japan, with a detachment in Sasebo, Japan.
