I have not been on this site for awhile. What happened on the Essex?

Comment by Mary n Jesse on February 27, 2012 at 4:25pm

So, check out this "small world" thing. A fb friend posted about enjoying the new movie Act of Valor that was made with "real" navy seals instead of actors for most of the characters, and a friend of that friend mentioned that her sons ship was used in the movie for some of the scenes, yep - the Bonhomme Richard! So, I sent her a note and we are so psyched to talk to each other, just meeting randomly on fb. She lives in a different state now, but graduated from my high school a year before I did. She said my last name was familiar and if I knew a guy named "Jeff" (LOL). yeah I do...I married that guy! She remembers my husband from Jr. High and High School. small crazy world.

She said she was on the BHR tiger cruise and has told me that the ship is absolutely beautiful. most of the berthing areas have beautiful laminated wood floors, etc. It is a top notch perfect condition ship.  (I wasn't sure what to tell he about "ours", LOL she said she has heard stories and jokes that ours might have to be "towed" back to the U.S.)  :)  funny, but kinda not funny.  Anyway, it was nice how that all unfolded on fb, and thought I'd share.

I don't even want to think about what Jesse will bring home, Kim! I already have my whole attic filled with his crap, and his room is full of crap! LOL. Jesse is a sentimental pack rat (has everything from his elementary school still!). Maybe since he lives on the ship he won't have as much, LOL

skyping with Jesse now! We were looking at his face, but my husband decided to add a person and when you do that you cant see faces, so Jesse and his dad and Jeff's brother are all talkin now.  Jesse is going to bed (early for him), he has to get up early tomorrow. He is in good spirits, had a good day bowling and playing b-ball. So good to hear him giggling on skype with the "boys" talkin Nascar and stuff.

Sounds like we are hearing from our sailors, have a great day my friends!

Skyped with Josh last night.  But his camera didn't work on his end :-( so I didn't get to see handsome face!  But hearing his voice was wonderful!  And he did finally get his ship to shore cards!!  YAY!!!

Mary n Jesse,

We will be the proud moms of the Bonhamme Richard, nick name "Bonny Dick." The Essex will be carefully taken care of when it reaches SD. She will be in dry dock for approximately one year and be like new when she comes out! They will give her all the love she needs to get back on her feet....
