Tina -  Missed his flight from Fukouoka or elsewhere?  Will he just go back on base until Tuesday?

Comment by MarianneKT's Mom on January 7, 2012 at 10:47am

Kyann - I know that on the DC Moms one of the parents said they were limited to 1 on the carrier their sailor was on since they limited the number of 'guests' and there is a waiting list.  They cruise went from Hawaii to WA or CA.

I know that on the Essex 2010 cruise they said to get your registration in early as there was a limited number, but no one was turned away and there were 120 or so (can't remember the exact # on the cruise).  Once the official paperwork comes out there will be a letter from the Captain, registration form, medical forms, list of what not to bring/to bring, form saying you are responsible for yourself and you can't sue the Navy (something to that effect).

They letter will tell you that you are on your own to make your travel plans and if anything changes, or is cancelled, you are on your own.

Oh, marianne, thank you for that info! I hope it's still the same. Someone on the Essex fb site said they thought only 1 parent was allowed. We will need major help with travel plans, so any advise there is greatly appreciated too! I wonder if the Essex will offer help for the trip?

Kyann - Last Tiger cruise allowed more than one parent --- Both Sharon and her husband went and I saw other couples as well.

I'm still here.

Tina, I looked up the ship.  It looks like they are finishing a very long deployment.   That means he won't have to face one for a very long time.  Good timing for him.  Norfolk.  I wish.  That is a 5 hour drive for me.

So is only 1 parent allowed to go on the tiger cruise?

Tina - Katie was on for just a moment this AM before heading out with friends.  She said she got to say 'goodbye' to Jamie this AM.

Tina, you must be so excited.  Where's Jamie's new command?  How many years was he on the Essex?

Hi all...yes, I am enjoying every minute!  I took the whole time off from work. Our oldest son also took the time off too.  My husband had most of the days but not all.  It's nice just to be here with everyone around!  Cooking favorite meals and just relaxing together.  I get to stay up late and chat when Josh and his brother come home.  My parents will be here Friday and Saturday and then a big family party on Saturday.

Dreading Sunday :-(....but certainly thankful for the time we had :-)

Tiger cruise sounds soooo exciting.  But don't think financially we'd be able to swing it by the summer.

Take care,

Cathy
