Hello All, I'm new in this group. Sailor just got orders and will be leaving soon. After reading some of these posts I'm really worried. How are they being treated? What is going on?

Please do not discuss actual dates on this site! Our sailors safety depends on it!!!!
If you have a question like that ask your sailor directly.
Remember no dates, times, or events discussed on this site. If we can find them so can the wrong people.
Safety first!!!!!!!!
Please read the rules and regations on the start up page.

When are they going to stop working our sailors 16-18 hours a day?   Feel so sick when they only gets 4 hours of sleep.  Most of the sailors on this ship, I hear are working regular hours.  My own sailor and others are being tortured.  Signing up for 4 years is one thing but working them endlessly these hours and working them on hardly any sleep is unacceptable and dangerous.  Hurts like hell to hear about this night after night.   Please, again, check with your sailors.  They need our love and support.  This is madness.  Praying for YOUR SAILORS too.   I expected better.  Our sacrificing Sailors deserve better treatment.

Thank you ValK for the update and the info about the packages and the update on the plumbing issues. My own Sailor is also working an average 15 hours a day and often 6 and 7 days a week.  I hadn't heard about the 4-hour old food that our late-night working Sailors are eating in the galley.  That is a GREAT way to get them all sick from bacteria. Sadly, I keep hearing the words of the Sailor at MEPS when my Sailor was sworn in, "You're son is in the Navy now, we'll be taking very good care of them."  I'm still waiting for the Navy to make good on that regarding our sons on the Essex. Keeping your SailorMan in my prayers and all our Sailors who are having to deal with these seemingly never ending issues.

Just sent another box of goodies to SailorMan.  He does not finish duty until late & galley is closed ore ok but 4 hour old food.  FYI - Post Office $15 box "if it fits is ships" is the perfect size - don't use soft envelopes as contents get crushed.  Plumbing issues seem to but some heads continue to back up.  Ick.  I was told a Girl Scout came to the dock (with her family) selling cookies & did quite well.

Jane,MM Mom -

Since these forums are probably being monitored, I hesitate to answer your question about which department.  I'm so sorry.  Just don't want to risk these sailors getting punishment in the form of even more hours, etc.

Mostly I am just concerned by the things I've been hearing with regards to the morale of some of our sailors and I just urge you to all make sure your own loved ones are doing okay and make sure the communication channels are open between you and them so that if they need to talk and complain, they are able to.  It would go a long way right now.

I writing this to all the families who have loved ones assigned to the Essex.

I, too, have someone I love assigned to that ship.   I urge you STRONGLY to call your sons and daughters and open up lines of communication with them inviting them to vent their feelings right now with you.  From what I have heard, the 18 hour work days with one day off a week (if they don't have duty or someone assigns them extra work) and the way they are being treated by others in the Navy is breaking down their spirits.  Some of the sailors are dangerously depressed from the stress of the situation the way it is right now.

Please, contact your Sailors.  Make sure they are okay and that they know you love them and are there for them and that you care about what they are going through.  They need it right now, badly.

Sorry to even have to write something like this.  I wish the situation was better for our Sailors on that ship.  Hopefully it will be once the repairs are all done.

I spoke with my son last night, he didn't know. Said only part of the sailors were back on board in the sleeping quarters, the rest are still on barge.
Would love to know the info myself.

Does anyone have the # for The USS Essexat the great lakes naval base? The sailors had the number on their leave chits, but my sons got thrown away by mistake. They need to call that number if their flight gets cancelled
