Justins Mom, I understand, like I said before this is my husbands first deployment in 4 years, so my kiddos were 9 and 6 then. They still didn't get the concept of time and weren't very active in sports and such. So it was easier on me. Now they are both playing sports on different teams and just more social. I have been busy busy busy, but it has made the time fly by.

My husband calls occasiontally and emails very little. I guess it just depends on where the phones are in relation their work centers. If you have one in your work center it's really easy to pick up the phone and call. If you don't and you have to go to a phone it's hard to call out. There are times when you have to wait on an outgoing line for an hour or so because there are others making calls. I don't know how many phones are on the ship, but I would imagine it's very few considering the amount of people on board. This is my husbands first cruise in 4 years. Last deployment they had 2 satellite phones on the ship. So it was a rarety to get a phone call.

Justins's Mom, you're in the right place. I happen to be a wife, but most are moms on here.

Just a heads up, I'm not sure how much information your sailors share with you, but someone posted ships ops on Facebook the other day. So just be careful what you say and who you say it to. Communications were secured for a day or two and they have been told if it happens again they will lose all communication from now till end of cruise. I'm sure, that no one on this group is guilty, but we just need to make sure we're careful.

You could ask your sailor to find out what's in the ship store. I'm not sure what their supply is like now that they are underway, but he could always check. I know there have been some shirt orders for certain things since they have been gone, but not sure if those pertain to their rate.

Oh, OK, just wanted to make sure I didn't make a mistake in not purchasing one. I won't be there for homecoming, so thinking of having my own made for friends and family that welcome him home at the airport.

Did you receive the T-shirt yet? I was very interested until I saw the representation of it. Not the real thing, but it didn't appeal to me at all.

It's so great that they can call now. We have only been in 10 years, but our first 3 deployments were very different from this one. We didn't have a computer the first deployment, so had to rely on USPS. Our second and third we had a computer, but email was always down during the second. He occasionally got to call from the satellite phone during the 3rd, but this one he's calling weekly. It's great!

I'm not a mom but a spouse. My Mother in law found this site the other day. I found this group and it said for family members. So I decided to join.
