also, maryellen said some asked the price, yes they did.  what was funny was when we would take an unusual one out of the box (or what was asked for most sport teams and cartoons) we would yell it out and hands would shoot up.  one time i said "how much do you bid on this one" and they started, it was funny

i agree with maryellen, i told my dad that seeing the looks on their faces and the appreciation in their eyes was something and i feel very honored to have been a part of that!  i don't sew very well so none of the pillowcases were made by me but it was just wonderful.

some of the sailors said they were giving them to family members.  one guy found one with flowers on it and an angel on the band.  he said his mom loved flowers and angels and was going to send it home to her.  just thinking about it bring tears to my eyes.

as i said, i can't sew but i made my sailor her own pillowcase and will give it to her tomorrow on mother's day.  i've put a picture below.

@april - You are absolutely right about homecoming -- outside of my son's PIR, that is my favorite memory of his Navy service.  They go all out -- band, banners, balloons .. the tug boats come in first and spray huge arcs of water to welcome them .. it's the whole enchilada!

Just wanted to say that my sailor received a pillowcase and he absolutely loved it. he said that the lady left her contact information and he does plan to keep in touch with her. what an amazing gesture. :)

Thank you to all of you ladies involved in the pillowcase project.  What a beautiful and thoughtful gesture.

My sailor was very touched.

annie annie annie....you're too much honey!!  i LOVE this group!!!

Mimi-a Starbucks and Subway ONBOARD the ship?  i had to let that sink in for a spell...i guess they are "Closed for Lunch....be back in * months" when the ship is deployed?

did someone mention margaritas???  woo hoo!!!

Comment by Annie on May 6, 2011 at 11:44pm

@Connie - I would, but I've fallen and can't get up!

Comment by Annie on May 6, 2011 at 11:42pm
Cee Cee .. I hate that you're hurting (and the other moms too). I wish I could do something to make it better. Right now nothing I say is going to make a difference, but I swear, before you know it you'll all be getting ready for homecoming and not too long after that you'll be helping other moms get through "the first" deployment. In the meantime, we're here to have each other's backs. Other military moms did it for me, and I will do it for you guys. Just hang in there and know how much we all care.

Now ... what kind of margarita was that you ordered last week?? :P

There is a website for the Bush, here it is....

http://www.public.navy.mil/airfor/cvn77/Pages/USS%20GEORGE%20H.W.%2...

If you are on facebook, the Bush also has a facebook page......

my son is going this next week....me and my husband have been in Virginia Beach since Sunday....spending time with our son......Tonight is a very bad night for me since tomorrow we must head home.....I'm very sad....the tears have already started flowing and I can't get them to stop......I am going to miss our son so much......I know this is what he wants to do, but maybe I'm selfish......I want him home with us....I'm going to miss him so much over the next 7-9 months....and know, from him being on the ship in January, that I won't have much communication with him....and it's breaking my heart.

The pictures are of a project, the Bush Pillowcase Project.....myself, and a whole bunch of other Navy Moms, and others, make pillowcases for our deployed military, not just Navy.......Check out the Heads at Ease page on Navy for Moms......My husband and I feel that it is a great project and one that I am very proud to be a part of......I made 140 pillowcases for the Bush and with the Lord's blessing and donations, I hope to continue to make pillowcases for more of our military going on deployment!
