Rough morning.  Turned to a Boston station covering the funeral of the second firefighter that died in a fire over a week ago.  Having a husband as a retired deputy chief firefighter and a child as a sailor and 6 years ago all three of us went to a double funeral for fallen firefighters from our area - such an event is a double-edge sword.  You are proud to see the turn out of fellow firefighters from all over the nation and abroad but you are deeply sadden for the gathering.  R.I.P. firefighters.  You've earned your place in Heaven while battling Hell on earth.

Yea! So happy you heard from him! So you order this rack stuff after they are on the ship or can they take it with them?

We finally just got an email from him; confirmed that the internet has been down for days.

I have found the best way to send things is get the flat rate boxes for fpo shipping from the post office, they are free, and much cheaper to send things.

Laura,  the arrival sounds very cool. My son would love that.  I am very happy to hear they get a travel buddy. ATA Kris, try not to worry and I will be praying too that all is well.  Is emailing the ombudsman an option to check on him? This Navy Mom thing is tough!  Also everyone I had asked a few questions that I would be grateful if you guys could help me with.

"

Can I send a package in advance of his arrival on the ship and how?

What should he take with him?

What is a rack pack?

Anything else I should know?

Oh and can I get the Avenger? I thought someone said maybe they weren't taking new subscriptions?  I am on the road a lot with work and usually email from my phone but it seems that I can't do that with this site so it takes me a while to follow up on conversations.

ATA momma...I haven't heard anything in six days... my sailor usually goes a few days without contact because he works very long hours... I'm sure your son will reach out soon...super busy or lack of computers are usually the reason for lack of contact...

Kathy WQ - please pass along a "Bravo Zulu" to Cate and Brady!  Sometimes the hardest thing is not moving on wanting to physically beat the smarts into someone who does not know better.  And to big brother for showing her sometimes you just can't fix stupid.  Bravo Zulu to them both!!!!

Thank you all for letting me know you have heard from your sailor. It's very encouraging. I would hear from my son ata Kristian Watkins everyday and his girlfriend would hear from him multiple times a day. We have not heard a word, so yes I'm the worried momma. I just gonna pray all is good. Thanks all for replying.

ATA KrisWatkins Momma....I do not hear from my husband everyday which sucks but he is no where near a computer when he is working and by time he gets off work the lines for the computers are long so he goes to the phones and they are the same as well. The longest we have gone without talking has been a week. But the time difference that they are on compared to EST is several hours ahead of us so that might make it more difficult for them to email or call depending on if you are east or west coast. Maybe there is someone on here that has a sailor that works or knows your son. What department is he is and they can try to get him to email or call you? Some of the moms on here have done that for me and I am forever grateful for it!

KathyWQ....That is so awesome!!! My niece who understands what her uncle does thinks the world of him. Every chance she gets she talks about him and tells her teacher how her uncle is in the Navy but he is away and she cant tell. I find it so cute!

My niece, whose 6, thinks my sailor hung the moon. Yesterday I got this text from my sister:
Cate got into an argument with Sammy in class because he was making fun of Jonny being in the Navy and said that he doesn't really save the world. Cate was so pissed! Brady (her 9yr old brother) told her that Sammy is young and may not be familiar with the Navy and what sailors do and she should take some time to explain it to him. His good brotherly talk forced her off the ledge. I was afraid she was going to beat the shit out of Sam in class. And I really love that she thinks Jon saves the world!

Proud Navy family here
