Saw this on navy.mil today, about the GW:

http://www.navy.mil/submit/display.asp?story_id=91858

The other day I read that having duty is a qual for many ratings for advancement. Makes sense,  even duty in a foreign port is a requirement. Some Sailors hopped on the GW bc their ship wasn't going out and they needed their duty quals...I thought it was interesting.....well, guess this cruise is better then the longer 10 month deployments...lol

Oh, I'll have to download that app. Thank you. Wow, you workout on the tread mill and exercise bike...good for you Beachbunny. I'm heading to the gym after work, first time in months. :(

Djk's mom-sending you (((hugs))). I know what you mean. My sailors birthday was yesterday. So weird not having him around.

I hear ya....my sailor has been on the deep blue sea, 20 of the last 24 months...thought when he was stationed 6 hours from home, we'd see him at least a couple times a year....nope been having too much fun carrier hopping....good thing he loves his job!

I follow the Navy.mil on their app on my phone. I read it when am on the exercise bike or treadmill. They have a great photo of the day section and weekly review video, cool stuff our USN does out there!!

Thank you for sharing the awesome pictures Beachbunny, I didn't see those on the GW Facebook. Keep checking a few times a day but haven't seen any new pictures.

I am so over this deployment guys , I can not tell you! It seems much longer than last year!  Much less communication. My sailor is Undes and , I think must strike for a rate before his 2 year anniversary which is fast approaching. I am worried sick . What happens if he doesn't?

darn, here's the description of that picture:

151101-N-DM308-457 STRAIT OF MAGELLAN (Nov. 1, 2015) Two MH-60S Sea Hawk helicopters from the "Black Knights" of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 4, prepare to land aboard the aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73) as it transits the Strait of Magellan. Washington is deployed as a part of Southern Seas 2015. The eighth deployment of its kind, Southern Seas 2015 seeks to enhance interoperability, increase regional stability, and build and maintain regional relationships with countries throughout the region through joint multinational and interagency exchanges and cooperation.
