I'm still waiting for a call too. I have been somewhat surprised because before they came in, my sailor was talking about really wanting to chat soon. Hopefully she is like Kelcie ... duty on the ship and soon will be off.

Katalana, thanks for the dates. I do know that cherry blossom season lasts a long time in Japan because it starts in the south part of the country and moves north.

Carolina and Millye, so glad you got to have good phone conversations with your sailors. katlanta, I'm sure you are right, and your phone call is coming soon. abc, what a stinking bummer!!! We actually had that problem with our connection while Kelcie was in Singapore. We wound up calling the hotel, and talking, while we watched each other on Skype. Kelcie had duty the 1st couple of days they were in port, so I'm thinking we might hear from her tomorrow.
Cheryle, katlanta, and Millye..... it would be SO cool to get to meet each other in Japan!! Thanks for the exact dates, it helps me be able to plan some. I would probably plan on a week there, but more actual time off of work to recover from the jet lag.

i'm one of the many unlucky ones who's sailor got stuck in a hotel w/ horrible internet connection! it's either that or skype...but he's tried calling about 20 times in the last hour and he can't seem to hear me. :( he goes back onto the ship soon for duty....so i guess i missed my chance to talk to him anymore during this port stop. :( we managed to get an hour in yesterday...and with all the "mama drama" going on, sure could've used a talk! hope everyone got to chat w/ their loved ones!!! <3

Hi ladies,
Yep, they E-5's and below (at least thru E-3 were granted overnight liberty priviledges for Manila.
DC and Katlanta, we too are planning a visit this spring (hopefully during the Cherry Blossom festival also) as we are not tied to a school schedule. It would be great if several of us could be there at the same time and get to meet while our sailors are occupied.
Karen, there really is no reason for anybody to carry their SS card with them, In fact the SS administration suggest that you DON'T. When you get it replaced, just put it in a safe place. I have faxed a copy of it to various agencies when my sailor needed me to.

Katalana, I am planning sometime in March. I don't have dates yet but want to leave for Japan after March 11. I would like to be there during cherry blossom season.

Susan, Many thanks for your discussion of "front row." I am going to share that with my granddaughter.

Does anyone know if shore leave has been approved for E5s and below?
