Natalie...how long are you able to go for? Just remember you will not lots of walking and train rides if you are going to see the sites. Transportation is the most expensive. Our sailor met us at the airport. I am not sure we could have navigated our way around the transportation system at that time. Once you land you have to take a train to the Yokosuka or the Navy has a bus that I think you can ride. Not sure on that as we took the train.

Well I am off to grocery shop but will check back later.

Natalie....read the above discussion on Visitors Pass. In the Discussion Forum above...clck View All. There is a form that has to be completed and signed off by all in volved. You will also have to pay for your hotel in full prior to arrival for them to sign of in Housing.

I am so glad you got the Navy Lodge. You can't beat the price if you go to Tokyo or elsewhere over night. You just keep the room with your stuff ... it is home base.

I have to correct my earlier post to Millye....we only took 1200 photos. I just downloaded them to the main computer from the laptop. Will try to edit and get some posted but need to do "big" grocery shopping and errands. lol I have had a hard time getting back in the groove and the time change is murder getting use to.

Ah...that is too bad. Navy Lodge had the best beds! lol I don't know anything about Mercure Hotel but did see it. Looked nice from the outside and it is right in the area of the base. When are you going? Remember Navy Lodge Yokosuka won't book before 30 days. Won't even talk to you about it till then. Navy Lodge was wonderful for the 2 week stay as home base. It is on the back of the base which made it tough to walk all the way out of the base. We used the bus and taxi most of the time. That is why hotels off base would be convenient to trains and general town activities if you can afford it.

Natalie....did you go thru the 800 number and/or on line for the general Navy Lodge reservation? If so, call directly to Yokosuka Navy Lodge. It may make a difference. Look at the above at the Hotels In Yokosuka Discussion Forum. Good for you getting to go. It is an experience you will never forget.

Millye...will post a few pictures later. Have over 2000 and have to sort and identify them . lol

We are home from Japan :( It was a great trip despite the rain, wind and earthquakes! LOL Wonderful time with our sailor. Traveled for 2 weeks extensively from the base to different places to visit, staying over night in some. Great times. The people are very accommodating and nice. Language is a problem but you can get by just fine with pointing and limited English spoken. Trains are confusing but the sailors know their way around them. Food cost was not as bad as I thought it would be. It was transportation that costs. You ride a lot of trains and walk walk walk.

Like Lisa of AZ said....go, even if it is alone. Just have your sailor meet you at the airport to show you the way. Once there I would feel safe.

Millye..I was sitting at the desk in the Navy Lodge here on base and felt it. My sailor did not feel it at the apartment. He checked on it after I told him and said it was off shore of Tokyo. I checked a local navy forum and others were talking about feeling it but no damage or anything. I now can add earthquake to my list of things I saw and felt here in Japan!

Millye....sounds like Claire's birthday was remembered by lots of people! Good for her to have made such an impression on those that have remembered her special day.

Can you believe it, I ran into Candy (Brian's mom) from this site here in Japan. They were walking down the street on base and I recognized her from her profile. Nice to meet you Candy!

Our trip is winding down. We leave in a couple days. Have had a great time even if weather did not cooperate the whole time.

Sandra, BZ to your son. I know that you have to be proud of him. Now his theme song can be, "I've looked at life from both sides now." If I could come up with a good second line, this passage would fit him to a tee:

Tears and fears and feeling proud,
To say I love you right out loud.
Dreams and schemes and circus crowds,
I've looked at life that way.

But now old friends are acting strange.
They shake their heads; they say I've changed.
Well something's lost but something's gained,
In living every day.

I've looked at life from both sides now,
From win and lose and still somehow,
It's life's illusions I recall.
I really don't know life, at all.

Our granddaughter is on leave to visit her mom (and boyfriend ... duh!) in Florida. When she leaves JAX, she will have a six-hour layover in Seattle before heading out for Tokyo and a new adventure. I keep encouraging her to keep an open mind and she will love the adventure. She keeps remembering family will be so far away. While that is true, it will pass far more quickly than she realizes.

Back from riding the Bullet Train to and from Osaka. Awesome. Great time there.

Millye...I called your daughter and left her a birthday message in case she says some crazy lady called her.

Have not run in to Candy (Brian's mom) yet. I think she came in yesterday. If you read this...hope you are have a great time so far.
