Hi, I'm Dori and our granddaughter is currently in C school in Whidby Island. She will finish mid-March and then is unsure if she will head to Japan immediately or stay on hold at Whidby for a while. She is an AT and is going to be assigned to the GW.

Kimi... I am sending you a friend request so I can send the address by private message. Don't want to post the Chaplains name and address in the open forum. Thanks so much for sending thank you notes to the Vinson!

CALLING ALL MOMS! Here is a chance to let ‘our’ sailors know how much we love and support them! If there is one thing every Navy mom learns during boot camp it is to write a great letter!

Will you please write a letter or thank you card to a Sailor aboard the USS Carl Vinson which is conducting humanitarian and disaster relief operations? Our goal is to send over 5,000 thank you cards to Chaplain ‘Fish’ by February 10th! He will distribute the cards and letters we send to the crew on the Vinson and the other Navy ships; the USS Bataan, USS Nassau and USS Comfort headed to provide support to Haiti!

Contact your local schools, scout groups and churches! Collect as many thank you notes and cards and send them along! The best (and most cost effective) way to send them might be a flat rate box offered by the Post Office! Let these sailors know that you are proud of them and say thank you for all they are doing!

For the address of Chaplain ‘Fish’ please contact me with how many cards you have gathered and I will be happy to provide the address! Let's show them just how proud we are of them!

When the USS Carl Vinson pulled out of Norfolk January 12th on the way to their new homeport of San Diego they were singing ‘California Dreaming’. That night a devastating 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti and their destination changed. The Vinson was one of the first ships able to respond. We have all watched the news and seen the pictures. But can you imagine what it is to be at sea for the first time and called to duty in such an important mission? To feel the 95+ degree heat, experience the cry for help and pain, see the devastation up close?

Many of our sailors are boots on the ground and many more are providing support for them. Those sights and sounds will stay with them forever. The United States Navy has prepared them to do their jobs, and let's face it; we know they are the best of the best.

These sailors are pumping over 3,500 gallons of water a day to deliver to quake victims, launching well over 600 flights of aid and rescue from their deck, providing security and caring for many injured. They have given of themselves… working long hours, catching sleep when they can. Here is our chance to let them know how much we appreciate all they are doing!

Michele - Thanks for the understanding. I am sad for Berta too, cranking is not fun, and glad it is over for them. Makes sense about the situation due to being shorthanded. That is just life. Will she be coming home in Spring? I hope they are able to have some time for New Year's. Ant should be coming back to the states in Sept, his 3 yr sea duty mark. Tell Berta to keep her "chin up" and hang in there. Thanks again for the support.

I am very proud for you all but very sad for my son. He had duty on Christmas day and then had to needle gun the deck. He was upset about the situation and to top it off, his present had not arrived yet. It has been a year since I have seen him. I am hoping to go in the Spring and will be asking for advice from the Moms who have been there. Hopefully his New Year will be better. Happy New Year to all the moms!

Lisa...(and all) Merry Christmas. So glad you having a great visit with your son on this holiday!

Merry Christmas to everyone and all of our sailors! Ant has duty Christmas day, but at least that will keep him occupied. May all of our sailors know that their families love them and prayers go out to all of them. I so hope the new year will bring good things for them all. Ant is to call me the day after Christmas and I so look forward to hearing from him. God Bless you all!
And I thank each Navy Mom for all of the support.

Merry Christmas to all! We were lucky this morning. Our sailor SKYPED us. He called just a few minutes before Christmas (Japan time). So I was able to wish him a Merry Christmas "Eve" and Merry Christmas all in one conversation. This is not his first away from home so he was doing fine. His lady friend is in the states but is having a couple of the crew over to eat. I am sure they will celebrate! LOL My son (submainer) has duty today. So won't be able to talk to him. But hopefully tomorrow!
