Hello, Jenny, this site is great, so much info and wisdom from all the Navy Moms. My son has been there 2 yrs now. I just remembering him having to stay at the base on a barrack type barge until ship came back to port. He went through indoctrination classes that taught him a lot about the area. Having his account and credit/debit card with Navy Federal credit union was helpful. I remember sending him with comfort items for the plane flight: neck pillow, Ipod, magazines. He takes a carryon packback and I packed a special card/letter in it and a camera. Other mothers will have good advise for you. Enjoy every minute with him!!! Be comforted, he will find some good buds. Go back and read the threads, there is a lot of good information here.

Thank you all ladies for the updates. It is so helpful. And Sharol thank you for the website, did not know about it. Millye, your prayer was very helpful, it gave me some peace.

Please, anyone with updates keep us posted. I appreciate at least having some idea. I worry about them sometimes in rough sea, though I know the ship and they are equipped for such. I did get Ant's pictures yesterday. They look great but of course ups the missing him.

BigDMom - That is so wonderful to hear about your sailor. I am so glad he is recovering well and had the help. It is good to know that they help each other. I watched part of the Hulu.com carrier videos. It was great to watch and get some inside info to better understand what they go through. I am assuming that the GW is underway, is that the current stat?

There is a "GW Ombudsman" in our group here (at least that's her screen name). Maybe they can give you some "off the record" advice.

Just my two cents

I agree, you have to be very careful in contacting the ombudsman. I do not quite understand, but it seems that it can cause more problems for them. From my experience, it was more negative than positive when making those kinds of contacts. I know when Ant was home last year at Christmas, you can decide and do whatever you think is best regarding med and dental things, sometimes that just means paying out of pocket. I remember Ant hated the cranking too. I know I wonder about the confidentiality of the port dates. I have only experienced anticipated dates. Hope it all works out.

If calling from the US, please add 011-81 in front of the number.

Email the OMBUDSMEN at: gw3ombudsman@yahoo.com or call the GW Careline at 243-9913, and select option number two.

Tara Rogers 246-7989 or 090-1040-1992
Corey Kendrick 241-3419 or 080-6729-4082

Staci Clark-Allen 241-3106 or 090-9005-0997
Evette Langham
241-4298 or 090-9005-1873
Ginger - these are the numbers from the GW site for the ombudsmans. I agree with you, it is time to do something. I think they really become afraid that a medical condition will end up in a discharge. I really think after they spend so much money in their training that the Navy would rather help them than discharge. See what opinions the other moms have.

Ginny, the pics were amazing, what an experience and the joy of seeing your son. Appreciate all of the information, it is such a help to those of us who will try and make it over there.

I haven't received the pictures yet either, was wondering about that.
