nick seems to be liking it okay,he said he has met some nice people and has been to a few bbq's. we missed his call sunday and he said we might not hear from him for awhile, that was a bummer as one of us usually always has our phone on us.

he is still really homesick, but definetly sounded better.

My son said its definitely a whole different world there. He bought the Roseta Stone program to try to learn a little Japanese. LOL. He and a few other guys found a place where they have rock bands. He loved that. He is starting to like it there. They leave port next week for about 3 months.

nick got his stuff back, it was sent back to base stamped no such sailor, because he had not been on the ship yet so they didn't recognize his name. so glad he finally found it. hope you are all doing well, angela

thanks everyone, my sailor called last night and again I asked him about his stuff. this is the scenario he explained to me, he got to sasebo, his ship was out to sea, so he was told to send some of his stuff to the ship, ( he doesnt know why he sent his laptop and Iphone) the ship came in a few days later and he was told his stuff hadn't made it to the ship yet but that it would eventually. So  it's been about 2 and a half weeks now and still nothing, now he is pretty shy and is also used to his mum and dad helping him out. ( totally our fault, we  realize that now) so I guess I will stop harrassing him about it and let him figure it out for himself.

Renee welcome to this group, you will get loads of information here, there is also a Japan mom's site, but it is really busy.

To Nicksmum,

Here is the email to the ombudsman for the USS Germantown

germantown_ombudsman_lsd42@yahoo.com

Also, he should of had a sponsor when he arrived in Sasebo, they also can help your son.  The USS Germantown has a facebook page to voice your concern, also.  Hope this helps!

Hi Renee,

My son must know your son as they PIR'd on same date and he' s also headed to Sasebo. I caution you though not to post the date our sailors are traveling. This is against the rules of OPSEC and puts our sailors in danger. I'm always willing to chat privately too where we can be more open.

Sydney.

my sailor did not want to ask so I think he bought one while there in japan.  someone should know where his stuff is... the ship has an ombudsman that helps with any problems...find out who she is and email her...Harper Ferry LSD 49 is Tina Wright...also join the Command facebook...and chat with them..lots of good news there...hugs...

thanks ladybug, i just feel frustrated because I can't get the whole story from him, the phone he called me from had a terrible echo and we kept talking over each other. his phone is a prepaid phone and yes he does need to ask someone.
