oh yes and he did say he tried sushi and squid, i asked them what kind of other food they have there and he said noodles. which he was happy for because he loves noodles. He didn't mention the saki, but I did ask him the japanese word for beer and He knew it. Hmmm? I am sure someone just mentioned it to him!

thanks diana, I got to skype Nick last night, he sounded better, he has only been there 1 weekend, so maybe this weekend he will get out of the base and check out the area.

Nicksmum, my son said they will be in sasebo the 22nd so he has another week to wait. Tell him to have fun and explore the area. My son likes it there alot. He hikes, scuba dives, and loves the sushi! And the Saki....lol

hello everyone, I sure hope my sailor's ship comes into sasebo soon, because he is just sitting waiting to get started on his navy journey. I told him to enjoy the break, and get to know sasebo.

hope you are all well and have a great weekend, angela

my son left lax yesterday for Sasebo, boy 3 years seems like forever! I am so excited for him and nervous at the same time. it's like bootcamp all over again.

ms.ampi- your daughter is very pretty and looks so proud, congrats.

thanks to all for your positive replies regarding the negative comments that are on some websites. I shared with nick that any job is what you make it, so he is going in with his usual happy go lucky attitude.

Congratulations are in order for the new CDR of the USS Germantown! My sailor will be joining the crew as of August 21, 2011.  I could not be prouder.  It sounds like the crew are in great hands.

The Official FB page is: https://www.facebook.com/pages/USS-Germantown-LSD-42/14249046915624...

If you search do USS Germantown (LSD 42) and it shows up as a Goverment Organization. My son is happy on the ship. He just got to Japan in May. So far, so good. =)

nicksmum,

My son is on the ship and its just like any place else...it is what you make it to be.  He will be fine!  My son is having a great time and has made great friends.  He has been on the ship (actually was on the Harpers Ferry before the hull swap) since November, '10.
