For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

my son just arrived and is living on the uss gridley. how do I get a mailing address? I guess there's no service and no wifi so I thought I should be mailing letters and care packages asap. any help would be appreciated. This is the first holiday season without him and I want to make sure he gets mail. Thanks.
Ok I found this link to send a friend request to..re readiness group....and I also spelled ombudsman wrong ..oops.
Hiya.just got an email regarding someones son arriving tomorrow..IF you are on Facebook I recommend liking their pages . One is https://www.facebook.com/gridley101
Other is their 'USS Gridley Ombudsmen' page and their 'Gridley Readiness Group'..just search for the terms and like so you can keep informed ...actually just remembering the Ombudsmen page cant be friends with until your son notifies ships admin dept of you...I remember bugging my son to let the ship know so I could get on FB page !
Anyway just trying to help..welcome aboard :)
Also since im new at Navy therefore deployments i was surprised that i sent a care pkg in November and he got it in less than 3 weeks..so i was thrilled it arrived before Christmas.
As to pictures from deployment I have some misc ones from various ports and along the way my son took and I would share .. it anyone wants one or some post here and i should get an email and i can send it to your email or whatever.

US Department of Defense Navy contract awards BAE additional funding for the DDG-101 repair & maintenance docking.
BAE Systems San Diego Ship Repair, Inc., San Diego, Calif., is being awarded an $8,970,338 modification to previously awarded cost-plus-award-fee contract (N00024-11-C-4408) to definitize the USS Gridley (DDG-101) fiscal 2013 selected restricted availability.
DofD explain that a selected restricted availability includes the planning and execution of depot-level maintenance, alterations, and modifications that will update and improve the ship's military and technical capabilities.
This modification includes options which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value to $9,233,934. Work will be performed in San Diego, Calif., and is expected to be completed by Oct. 9, 2013.
Fiscal 2013 Operations & Maintenance, Navy and Fiscal 2013 Other Procurement, Navy funding in the amount of $8,970,338 will be obligated at the time of award. Contract funds in the amount of $5,338,137 will expire at the end of the current fiscal year.
The Southwest Regional Maintenance Center, San Diego, Calif., is the contracting activity.
Hi ..just popping in to say HI..new here but not on here much ..mostly on Facebook..but now son will be on this ship I will be looking for support from ladies in exact situation.I know Thanksmom already from AZ..anyone else ?...lived in Southern Calif my entire life so very happy about SD. Son just arrived in SD last week fresh from leave home after bootcamp grad of 8/24. He will be flown ? out to sea to meet ship sometime this week or weekend ..I think...look forward to learning from you all.thanks.
