Hi, I just joined your group.  If all goes well, my son suppose to be meeting your sailors in June.  He just graduated Friday from bootcamp.  I would appreciate it if you could give me any info before he leaves.  Thanks so much.  All this is incredibly new to me.  Thanks Lois

for Karla:  I just heard of a pretty incredible program that helps to support junior enlisted families (not sure if that applies, but I thought I'd mention it) that are expecting babies during a deployment:

Thank you for the perspective and reminder, marinewifenavymom.

I did want to share a link that relates our ship's current challenges back to the experience of our comrades-in-waiting:  http://www.huffingtonpost.com/rev-dr-wollom-a-jensen/military-famil...

At the bottom of the page are many more links to related posts.

Perhaps a sentence will speak to you, give you strength, or be something that you want to share with your own circles of support.  :-)

Oh, Karla...that must be disappointing to think about.  Is your son's wife in San Diego?  Do you think she would benefit from/be interested in programs that are available to support moms that may deliver without their sponsors physically present?  Terrie (our Ombudsman) would be able to connect her with great resources and -- while that's *no* replacement for her husband/your son -- developing a back-up labor plan does help reduce anxiety and put the focus back on a healthy pregnancy/delivery.

For the record, my family is super-bummed...I don't mean to minimize anyone's feelings.  But our sailors do best when they know we miss them but will keep managing.  :-)

p.s.  Cindy, that was so sweet of you to say.

Joy, you are always our voice of reason, thank you for that!

Joy, you are right.  I was bummed yesterday when I found out.  However, this is her job.  It's just going to make homecoming that much better!

Thank you so much! We all just need to know how sailors are safe, thanks to God

:)

AC-

The ship received an order to extend its deployment by a month or so.

While disappointing and definitely impacting the summer plans of GRIDLEY

families, this news does not qualify as a tragedy.  A change in homecoming

date happens to lots of ships.  Our loved ones are doing well and the direction

to extend is not a punishment but simply reflects the needs of the Navy.

Hang in there, everyone!
