Seashell is right. We always have access to the microwaves in the galley. Also, we had personal miniature fans because the outlets in our rack didn't work. They didn't allow plug-in fans anyway. Only the big ones provided by the ship, and that was only 1 per berthing. We had to keep a large stock of batteries because they died quickly. And believe it or not the heat was the cause of many failed mini fans. They would just stop working. So my suggestion is a small battery-operated fan with batteries they can charge up in the berthing or their workstation. And I'll pass on the issue with Navy Federal & the POA to my wife.

pat my hubby asked me to send him one already...however the batteries dont last too long cause they are running all night long. so hubby asked for rechargeable batteries and a recharger kit.
fan only cost $6 but batteries were $10 and charger $20
but hubby said it wil be worth it he is so hot

Count me in for the holiday project, I'll put the word out here and will add my estimated bags to the others in the Holiday Project discussion.

Had a fun day today - RIMPAC exercises have started here, and since the carrier USS Ronald Reagan is taking part, we drove over to Arizona Memorial (can't get into actual Naval base) to see if we could spot it since same class as Truman... Long story short, we saw a ship close by that I thought might be Reagan and I was just in awe, so big!!! Came home and googled the number (6) and turns out it's the amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard... and nowhere near the size of Truman, tee hee :)) Duh...

Karen, the card issue, is that something that the legal department on the ship could help with? I wonder if NYsailor knows, his wife works in that department. Hope you get it sorted out, there's got to be a way. I'm sure it's happened to others..

Karen, I trust your son is feeling much better; yikes it's so tough when we can't be there ourselves to help get them better. I'm constantly worrying that my son may not push water the way he should when it's so hot over there. Then that shot ... ugh! Hang in there. Those goodies from home are probably a great comfort when not feeling well, even if he has to wait a little to enjoy them.

Pat, I sent some brownies in the first box. My son asked me what the "brown stuff" I sent was, but said they all loved it. I must admit that I didn't pack them especially carefully. He asked for M&M's this time which I can't imagine enjoying in that heat, but, as you said, we try to send them what they're craving.
Thanks to cjj for the link with the video clips!

I also would love to contribute but know nothing about these "goodie" bags. What is in one and where do we send them? I have no clue..but, certainly we have to rise to the challenge. We can't let the Nimitz moms put us to shame, eh?

Hi Pat---I am a complete newbie at all of this--I have never heard of the Holiday Project, but I want to volunteer to do whatever is needed. Please just tell me where to read, what needs to be purchased, made, shipped--whatever need to be done, just let me know and I will feel privileged to be able to help.

Dorothee, my story is the same: one month for package #1 and 1week for #2. Who can understand why except the little gremlins moving them from here to there? Makes things exciting.

Wow ladies I have been gone since Thursday and I had alot of catching up to do! I think thats great that your son is gonna get to watch his son being born... My husband and I are still in the process of figuring out a way for him to see our son be born in November! The mail is going fast being sent from Arizona I sent my hubs a package and it took exactly 1 WEEK he was very excited that it didn't take as long as the first one. He cant wait for me to send him out the next one on payday! I am glad to see that everyone's loved ones are doing well! Brian gets to call me everyday twice a day so I am so so thankful!!! It really makes it so much easier! But it is kinda expensive but you cant put a price on love!!! I continue to send my blessings to all of you and all our sailors on the HST!
