The Iwo Jima Ombudsman has asked that we do not post the return date on a public forum yet.  If you have not connected with the Ombudsman or the FRG group, you should do so.  They will send your updated information as it becomes available!  They are great!

Does anyone know when Iwo Jima will come home?!

I imagine you get off the ship with your sailor whenever she's ready to.  Be prepared to do some carrying!

Cmyhero, the order of exiting the ship would be a good question for the FRG.  As I recall higher rank came off first but my sailor was with a medical team and not regular ship's company so I don't know if there's an exact order.  Is your sailor's cellphone activated?  I was able to talk to my sailor before he came off the ship.  I don't think you need to bring a seat - everyone is milling around and visiting with each other just outside the pier entrance and you can find a place to perch.  There was a tent with some seating too but I didn't check it out - the music over there was pretty loud :)  The parking lot is right there at the pier, so you could even rest in your car if you get there super-early.  Do wear comfortable shoes!  You'll see some interesting outfits (!) and 4" heels but mostly everyone is dressed well but comfortably.  It can be breezy, chilly and damp there on the piers, so watch the weather forecast and be prepared, even if you end up leaving a jacket or hat in the car.  Hopefully it'll be sunny and beautiful!
