Calling home depends on the ship's activity, how much access your sailor has, a variety of things. You can send just about anything that doesn't violate USPS rules - no aerosols, nothing flammable, no alcohol. If you send liquids, use Ziplock bags, even double-bag. Remember that storage is limited for them. Otherwise, depends on your sailor's preferences and needs. Mine asked for meal-replacement protein bars, for example; Purex 3 in 1 laundry soap... There's a good group here called Care Package Ideas where we get inspiration.

Hello Everyone,
New to this page & I have lots of questions......
How often can Sailors call home? How long do packets take to arrive? What can we send? I want to be part of Adopt a Sailor Group...what can I do? Thank you for all your help in advance... Pilar
Hi Pilarica! My son's former roommate called me about forwarding a textbook that came in the mail so I got off track :) Glad you liked the video! I would like to do another one this week to keep the interest high in the Molly's group, so if you and everyone here would like to email me photos of your sailor in uniform, I'll put them in! Let me know and I'll PM you my email address.
Hello....I just joined the group...My son is also on the Iwo Jima Ship..He deployed from Virginia on July...Still have questions about how often will I hear from him and how long do packages take to get there...
One more important note, rest assured the address is NOT put out in the public group. Once you join the main group, you're directed to request membership in a N4M private group where the address and mailing week date are given.
That is a great question, and the answer is that we'll all send them to the FCPOA (First Class Petty Officer Association) who will distribute the boxes to the junior enlisted E4 and below. So each box can be a variety of treats, personal care items, and games :) There are between 600-650 estimated junior enlisted, of whom 100 are women, so it's possible to pack a box and mark it For Female if you like :)
The Molly's Adopt a Sailor group has announced its August adoptees, and it's the junior enlisted (E4 and below) of none other than our own USS Iwo Jima! And your truly is 'mom of the month' :) My sailor is detached from the Iwo and is now in Italy, so no conflicts there by the way. I'm sure you're already sending care packages, but this is a special month and I encourage you to come check out the N4M group Molly's Adopt a Sailor project. The Iwo sailors have requested personal care items, snacks and homemade treats, and GAMES! This could be a great time to get your friends and community involved in your sailor's deployment. Here's the link to the details about this month's project: Fun and GATOR Games with the USS Iwo Jima! Molly's is a tax-deductible 501(c)3 by the way :) Find a "packing party" in your area, or host one! Boxes will all be mailed at the same time during the last week of the month. Here's a little video I did to introduce our sailors to the Molly's group, hopefully your sailor is there!!
Hi Pilarica!! Please join in and tell us about you and your sailor :) Welcome to our group!
