PCilla, so happy for you that the move to Florida works for you!   You can send both Advil; email the Ombudsman for the address. A couple of tips:  put things in ziplock bags; take things out of their original packaging to make room for more stuff.  Have fun putting it together!  iwoombudsman@gmail.com

You can certainly post here or there!  Here on N4M though they ask that last names be blurred out.

Hi all! Just caught up on all the posts. Cmyhero, I hope your situation gets better. I imagine its very stressful. Im so very excited the IWO JIMA is moving to mayport!! We are both from jacksonville fl so mayport will only be a 45 min to an hour drive! =)
Definitely helps with our plans for the future.

quick question: I am starting my first carepackage this weekend. when will he/I get the address that I need to send it to? Also, are they allowed to receive over the counter medicine? Ex: advil migraine or regular advil?

Last but not least, who is the "They" needing information?

Comment by Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom on June 19, 2012 at 12:06pm

I know it's hard, but it's what he signed up for - and you too, by extension.

Deployment means they're doing their job, and that will mean periods without communication.  It's just the way it is, nothing to be concerned about.  Also, please take a second and read through the Operational Security guidelines in the first Discussion forum above. For the safety of your sailor and everyone's, we don't discuss specific situations on a public site such as this.  By the way, you may hear the term "River City" when things are quiet; it's shorthand for "restricted communications."

For enlisted personnel, the Navy uses the term "rate" instead of "rank" to describe pay grade, and "rating" for occupational specialty.  Let Google be your friend :) and take some time to research, as there's lots and lots to learn.

The last advancement test was given in March and the results posted in late May.

From today's Virginia Pilot:  The USS Iwo Jima is scheduled to move its homeport from Norfolk to Naval Station Mayport, Florida in 2014.

The Iwo is one of three Navy ships making the move.  First will be the USS New York in late 2013, and the Fort McHenry, also in 2014.

The Navy says the accelerated timeline will ensure the health of Mayport’s ship repair industrial base and reduce the risk of man-made or natural disasters in areas where the fleet is concentrated, like Norfolk.

You're not married, right?

My only suggestion is to contact the ombudsman with your situation and see what she has to say.  What is the urgency?
