Hi. My husband is on LKC. I'm looking for other wives/family that are on here. What is the Halfway Beach Party? and how do you register to go? I would love to meet all of my husbands shipmates and their families!

Hey Steph, Wow, I'm sure it's hard for you guys to be apart -- pretty much newlyweds and all! I haven't heard from my son in a week or so -- I'm wondering if the internet has been shut off again.

Sandyh...I feel the same(connected to my husband being able to talk to all of you). I can't wait for them to come home! their expected return is around my husband and I's anniversary. We have been together almost six years, married for two. If you ever need anyone to talk to, I'm here. Add me, message me. I love talking to others that are going through the same situation. =)

My son is on the Champ and will be turning 21 this summer. I agree with the not fully grasping what it meant to have a son in the military until mine actually deployed! The DVD suggestion is a good one! (Loved the "playing nice" comment!) I am so thankful that I found this site -- especially the ship site! It makes me feel so much more connected to my son by chatting with other moms in the same "boat" -- excuse the pun!

My husband is also on the Champ. I heard from him over the phone twice and we try to email e/o everyday. Is there anyone here who's husband or son is on the champ. too??

I just stocked up on the whole range of Haribo products (gummy bears, coke bottles, etc.), hard candies as well as some of my boy's favorite other candies.......sending DVD's too as he has his laptop and a DVD player with him (hopefully he's playing nice and sharing with others). He turns 21 in a few weeks so concentrating on that little milestone before worrying about the holidays (though I've got stuff hoarded for that too). This whole episode really brings home just what it is to have a kid in the military. I never really appreciated it until he deployed and can now understand what my mom went through when I was in harm's way......but did it make me call or write home more? No.

I'm not sure -- I was planning on jerky, gummy bears, trail mix, etc...all the things my son loves but probably can't get on board. I asked him to tell me what he could and couldn't receive or if there was anything he needed, but haven't heard back yet. This is my son's first deployment, as well. He was in school and on hold since graduating boot camp in April 09
