It really was an amazing experience, wasn't it? I'm really hoping to be able to do the Tiger Cruise if it is offered this time when they come back from deployment. My son joined the Makin Island during their last deployment, so he didn't know anything about the Tiger Cruise and we missed the opportunity. We have two boys in the Navy, and it looks like their deployments will overlap. Our other son expects his deployment to be extended, so we will probably have a very quite holiday season without our boys. However, they both love what they are doing, so I guess that makes it better.
We went on the April day at sea as well. My mother-in-law said she thought it was amazing that a ship that large is run by children... LOL!! I guess that our children always seem young, even when they have the incredible responsibility that they have on this ship. :) Nice to see some of you moms on this group again...
Anyone ever on here?
Hi All -
I am trying to get some information about arrival. My daughter is an HT on the Makin Island and I am scrambling to make plans without a lot of info. I have messaged the FRG on Facebook but have never been admitted. Can someone help guide me through?
thanks
Thank-you jonwife and Artic Mama for the reminders on OPSEC. The USS Makin Island Ombudsman team was notified about the OPSEC violation and had the admins of Navy for Moms remove the post. If anyone has any questions about what is and is not OPSEC, please email us at makinislandombud@yahoo.com. And just a reminder, even when the information is officially released to the families, it is never ok to post dates or time frames on social media, in emails, texts, etc. Please keep in mind the old saying Loose lips sink ships. We want our Sailors and Marines to return home safely and on time. Posting OPSEC violations could change the ship's schedule and make them come home late as well as put them in unnecessary harm.
